This isn't what Palace did to get promoted though was it ?
Spent less than us in 2012/13.
No it's not what Palace did, but they had a lot of luck, only just getting into the playoffs in the end.

It's not a reliable strategy to chance to future luck, really. A more solid professional plan would be sensible.

8 million loss per year vs 23 million profit. I know which I'd prefer going forward.

Palace, Burnley, Blackpool. This season luck for the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Brentford. Seem to be an awful lot of clubs that are trying to go up by a route other than spending someone else's money.

We could ...but by spending more money ? Palace didn't. Burnley didn't.
TB has provided the funds for players, far more than Parish and co and we've spent more on wages/fees than most of the other Champ clubs (without parachute payments) in the last 3 seasons including this year.
But it doesn't always follow, as this summer /season proved that promotion swiftly follows.

Perhaps if Barnes hadn't hit the crossbar.

We'll never know. In fairness there was an arrogance running through the club including the fans that we were about to make the Premier League such was the feel good factor of the Amex and the complete change in the style and players. Most of us still felt that way until Zaha popped in a couple of goals......

Looking at those 3 (and others) shows it's not a question of how much, rather how wise

When Southampton were taken over and brought out of Administration, the new owner Marcus Liebherr paid off every single creditor in full.

No chance of that happening with Palace. Instead you get Disney crowing in the press about how wonderfully RICH they are now. Just imagine reading that as one of the creditors amongst the £80 millon-odd that Palace had conveniently written off over the course of their DOUBLE administrations. Those creditors they thieved from must feel sick to their stomachs.

CPFC, classy as always.

So you're saying Palace haven't gone up by spending someone else's money!

Yup, the constant references to administration sound a bit desperate when

(a) there have been 59 instances of clubs going into admin in the past, and
(b) the Albion had an informal agreement with their creditors in which they did not pay all that was owed to them. The only reason why an administrator wasn't appointed was because there were no assets to sell. We're not whiter than white.

Yes because instead of having one massive sugar daddy putting us into over £130m worth of debt we had a professional loanshark who put us into administration when owed £5m. Remind me when are Brighton paying off Uncle Tony? Oh yes they're not and never will do and eventually he will convert that debt into equity. If we really want to look into honest dealings then your rise up the championship was hardly organic was it? Instead it was all paid for by TB. How does that make you any different to the likes of Man City, Chelsea or any other club who spends money that they don't have?

I agree, money allows you to afford more mistakes, but it doesn't guarantee success. In recent years the likes of Cardiff have gone up as a result of overspending, had one season in the PL and came down straight away, along with a different set of money problems. Leicester and QPR are likely to do the same this season.

Perhaps if we had had a different manager. One who didn't fall back on caution all the time. One who wasn't so happy to see the ball rolled tediously up and down the backline, boring everyone to death. One who would have recognised, that within the ranks, was a matchwinner, who, unleashed a little bit more, would have won us more points. One who, when his team was totally in control of the first leg play-off semi, would have gone for the jugular instead of withdrawing and protecting a draw. One who would have changed strategy for the second leg and been pro-active, rather than let the game drift to the inevitable point where the opposition wrested the initiative away and wanted it more.
If you look at the whole season, it was an under-achievement in not steering that group of players to automatic promotion. Enough extra points should have been gleaned over 46 games to ensure a top two place. Ultimately, as recent events at Sunderland have proved, it turned out that our manager at the time was not as good as he thought he was.

I think they should pay back the St Johns Ambulance and other local businesses they absolutely fleeced over the past decade before they do that, don't you?
Careful! You'll have the Palace fans on here saying how there is nothing wrong in swapping millions of pounds of debt for ten league points and then carrying on as if nothing had happened.

Can't help thinking that TB ****ed up big time spending the money on extra seats when he should have spent it on the team when we were actually going for promotion..

I did say this at the time on here so it's not great hindsight either.

We could quite easily have been in the position Palace are now in.

I disagree. I reckon after January we had the best squad in the Championship. If we actually decided to go for it in the second leg rather than playing 3 holding midfielders who knew what would have happened, We had great form from January onwards, and to say he didn't spend is unfair. £2m on Ulloa, Bridge's, Vicente's and Upson's wages can't have been cheaper either.

A few people have said this before, but do you have any evidence to back up your opinion?

I don't want people to take my comments the wrong way either. Personally, I would like to see our owners remunerate the people that lost money under Jordan and possibly even those under Goldberg but the fact is our gang of four paid for a club in administration bobbing consistently around the edge of the relegation zone and did so because they were able to get creditors to agree to a sum of a penny in a pound. Is it right? No I suspect not but under the same concept is it fair to other clubs for Brighton to receive a £100m stadium and £30m training ground/academy that they themselves couldn't afford to buy? At least under CPFC2010 the growth and success this time around has been organic. The club is (currently) sustainable under its own income.

Exactly, it's all sounding like sour bloody grapes now - time to move on and focus on ourselves rather than bleating on about that lot up the road!!!

In a rather curious way, I don't actually begrudge them that.

They earned it, from looking like relegation candidates at the beginning of "that" season they climbed the League, made the play offs, beat us and won at Wembley.

Bragging rights for years.
