[Albion] Palace Fans Biggest Fear

Fun fact: Rak Sakyi was in the youth system at Chelsea, but wasn't offered a scholarship. He trialed with Albion and actually scored in the U-18 PL South meeting with Reading in February 2019.

Presumably we didn't offer him a deal; he moved on and trialed for Watford, and eventually earned a scholarship with Palace.

Hoping he isn't another Ian Wright story, which is unfair on the lad, given he had little option but to be at Palace, but, ya know.

2 or 3 seasons , managing Man City u23s, I know it’s only u23s but one would hope he can spot young talent.

I think before all of us both Brighton & Palace fans can judge next season we should wait until the squads are completed.

Of course we should, but where's the fun in that, particularly when we are way ahead in completing our squad

Palace's U23 side 0

Is this the U23s that you seem to think have plenty of players that are ready to step up and play premier league football?-You cant have it both ways, they are either good enough to be prem first team squad, and will need to be in 3 weeks time, or are they an u23 squad that are not as effective as the team that finished 14th in League TWO last time out?

We all know the first few friendlies are no real indicator of exactly who and how the players are going to be at the season start, but you so far have failed to field a team for the first friendly, managed a 1-0 win over one fourth division club, and lost by the same scoreline to a second forth division club. All the while being supremely confident that even without additions, you will comfortably be mid table and higher this season.

I wish I had the same confidence in Brighton, who have a mainly settled team, who aren't relying on 4 or 5 transfers (although a couple would be nice)and have proven U23s already playing in the squad

One of the funniest things this transfer window is that for some reason Palace transfer rumours keep popping up in my news feed! Invariably they are from Palace leaning sources and without exception they all refer to the targets as 'being likened to' or 'compared to' etc as if by mentioning the decent players name if validates the fact no one has ever heard of the fella. Palace fans obviously just lap it up, here are 2 from today:

'Palace want £6m speedster once labelled the new Kylian Mbappe" :lolol:
&
Palace want £32500 a week workhorse likened to N'golo Kante ???
It's bizarre and cringeworthy and exactly what our friend Mongo here is lapping up.

We lost 1-0 in a friendly and had a red card after 8 minutes. Yet you've interpreted it that 2 or 3 of our best young talents aren't good enough to make our bench. Ok mate. Your U23's lost 6-0 to Sutton the other day, they must be pretty poor on that basis.

Sutton 6
BHAFC X1 0

Very poor

I don’t know if you are old enough to remember your team playing Barnet a couple of years ago.

Barnet 6 - Palace 2

Very poor.

I think you had about 4 first teamers in the team.

And that’s the point about pre-season friendlys ,they mean nothing.

Or as Milo would spin : "Won by 1 less goal than the opposition".

Lol.

What young Milo seems to have not considered is that a lot of Palace fans have emigrated from the inhospitable lands of Sarf London and settled in God’s own country, in glorious Sussex. As such most Brighton fans will know a few palace fans and engage in the proverbial friendly banter. Of the ones I know, not one of them is looking forward to this season. They all wanted Roy to move on but at best are expecting a relegation scrap but would not be surprised if they were relegated. Through gritted teeth, they acknowledge our teams are heading in different directions. It’s been a long time coming but perhaps this season we might, we might just, actually finish above ‘em.

That's funny, because the majority of the Palace supporting mates I speak to are looking forward to the season, as do most of the posters on the BBS.

Heading in different directions? Don't kid yourself!

But you’re only 14. And BBS … well, lol.

The ones I know are older, long standing season ticket holders and I’m guessing probably a different generation to you. They’re knowledgeable, for example, one is one of those ‘connected, in the know’ types; another is an ex-pro, on palace’s books a long time ago, but never made the first team, and others are just long standing fans. They know a bit about football, they know about their club and aren’t deluded or stupid enough to bother visiting a Brighton forum to argue the toss over how good or bad Palace is. But it gives me great pleasure to say they are ****ing worried about this season.

except our match against Sutton was billed as the u23 squad i believe but your match was not an U23 match but a first team friendly- do you not see the difference- and our U23 were the under 23 team from this coming season playing, not the u23s that playing already with the first team, or training with the first team squad
or the ones we expect to be playing with the first team. There is a massive difference that you are wilfully ignoring

Our first teams FIRST friendly is this afternoon against Rangers, lets compare the team we put out for the first friendly, to the team you have put out for your first couple shall we- that will be a like for like , not comparing your first teams friendlies to our acadamy team, although I accept your first team is still missing these wonder 4 or 5 nailed on signings that have not yet appeared(and there is no indication who they are)

That Rangers are the Scottish Champions puts them somewhere between top of championship to mid prem level depending on your opinion of Scotish football. Iits a reasonable test of how we are at the moment. You have Ipswich this afternoon I think. again a step up from who you have played so far

You are the one saying your current squad is capable of easily being top15 or higher, not us. We know we still have work to do to be able to say that. This comparing our acadamy teams 6-0 drubbing with your first teams two friendly results against FOURTH division opposition is simply not comparing like for like

I've never said it'll be an easy season, I've said with the right signings we could finish top 12. Your lot are the ones writing us off as relegation fodder though which is completely unfounded. Yes, weve lost some players but a lot of them were deadwood.

You need to google Premier League predictions 2021-22.

You’ll find it isn’t only Albion fans who think you lot are in for a long hard season.

So, not as unfounded as you think.

Very easy to get into a nitpicking exchange on a message board but surely you could put any club’s name into what you’ve just written. With the right signings we could be a top 4 side! But that is not going to happen. Plus we’ve also ejected some of our deadwood but I’d say this season we’re in a stronger position than you at the moment. This of course could change over the next few weeks once the season is underway and when the transfer window shuts.
