I've seen £50m suggested, I've seen £80 million suggested, all I know is that there should be plenty of money to spend because the board have been very tight in recent years, and we've just freed up a huge chunk of the wage bill.

I think we'll definitely offer Cahill an extension. We're certainly looking to bring the average age of the squad down with these signings, but it's helpful to have some experienced heads in and around the squad as well.

This is an enormously important transfer window for the club. I was a bit sceptical we'd be able to pull of a rebuild of this magnitude, but to give Dougie/Vieira/Parish credit, they've made a really impressive start.

I think we'll definitely - what does that mean? Didn't someone say similar about the new stand and the ring fenced money?

Yeah. You see when we went to Chelsea to a sign a promising young defender, who didn't have a clear path into the first team, we got him for £3m.

So back to my first point. What was Parish's opening gambit on signing this promising young talent?
"£15m rising to £20m because we're desperate" sounds about right.

Lamptey looks like a great player. When you signed him, however, he had played about seven seconds of professional football and his contract was about to expire. It was a risky signing, you paid £3m and gave Chelsea a sell on %.
It's hardly a surprise that he was considerably cheaper than a player coming off the back of an exceptional full season in the Championship with a recently extended contract, is it?

A quick look at the Swansea fans reaction to this signing has reassured me that we're doing the right thing here

Risky?

As signings go, it was probably one of the least risky signings in the history of the Premier League. Lampard was extremely keen for Lamptey to sign a new deal (which is almost certainly why he gave Lamptey his PL debut just a month before he left, along with two FA Cup appearances). Lamptey was VERY highly rated at the Bridge - How Chelsea lost rising star Lamptey to Brighton for only £3m

It's hardly a surprise that he was considerably cheaper than a player coming off the back of an exceptional full season in the Championship with a recently extended contract, is it?

"Recently extended contract" - he signed a new deal in September 2019 to June 2022, with a club one-year option. That option was taken up in May, presumably to maximise his value in the transfer market. So, the last contract he signed with Chelsea was actually two years ago.

However, none of this is to argue that BOTH Lamptey and Guehi are very good players. Guehi, of course, has yet to appear in the Premier League and you never quite know how a player will adjust to that environment, but I'm sure most Palace fans are currently as excited at seeing their new CB as Albion fans are at seeing Lamptey once again tearing up the PL.

And their best player is still banging on about wanting out season after season - yet nobody seems to think he’s good enough for a big club - shambles.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this.

I mean it literally means nothing, other that that the academy staff at your club, feel that it is worth keeping those 12 lads on, to fill shirts in your U23 fixtures. Now there MIGHT be really good, future PL players amongst them, but only time will tell whether they are a good 'harvest' or not.

The numbers are literally just numbers. If your staff had decided to also hand contracts to a further few that were released, would you have considered that an even better 'harvest' .

You’re probably right, most of the 19 year olds will step up to the 23’s, the younger ones will stay with the 18’s for another year.
On a normal season, we’ll sign 3 or 4 academy lads on pro terms, so signing 12 is a testament to this fine group of players, who just missed out on winning the league to Fulham on goal difference. ( although we did do the double over them )
There’s no guarantees with young pro’s, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of these boys making the 1st team in the next few years.

It's a buyback option that they have priority if they match any future bid.

Sorry but you are completely wrong, it not a glorified long at all. Chelsea have a 'future match price' option which means if some other team bids 40m for him in 4 years and we accept, we have to offer Chelsea the same price.
