They have disappointingly signed / being linked with some promising youngsters. The challenge is for these guys to all hit the ground from match 1 running. No gentle bedding in periods a la Potter. It relies on them blending with some of the old pro’s also together with an entirely new game plan, manager and playing style. I for one am still very much hoping this is a recipe for disaster…

Changing from an aged expensive and under-performing squad to a younger squad is exactly the right thing for them to be doing. Not in one window though and not with an inexperienced and 6th choice manager. You plan that sort of squad refresh over a couple of seasons at least, it is a strategic decision that is planned for and for which your manager is in tune with. Such a massive squad change and manager change at the same time is really bloody stupid.

If they pull this off and don't crash and burn it will be a miracle.

Wasn't this FDB's plan / remit - and they abandoned it after 4 games?

Going to be a lot harder to change direction if this doesn't go well with such a thin squad.

Haven't Chelsea also grabbed a big chunk of any sell on revenue? This is a big gamble.

Really??

So £15- £20m and a big sell on?
Seriously??

Did they go into the negotiations with "Look we're desperate, we'll take anything" as their opening?

Quotes from Swansea Fans

" Swans finished 10th under Potter, should have been higher but we couldn’t defend set pieces, the football was very good, again from a coach who developed in Europe, and a PL side saw the quality and signed him. Guehi is one of a very few quality players we had last season and now he’s gone.

We all know our defence (Guehi outstanding) in the 1st half of the season got us where we were. Sadly for much of the last 3/4 months our football was dire. We used to mock Stoke relying on Kenwynne Jones long throw ins, now we’ve become the same, Ayew apart no cutting edge.

So my point is, whilst wishing Guehi all the best for the future, what does the future hold for the Swans under the current coaching regime. Eulogising over Cooper’s achievement in getting us to the playoffs doesn’t alter the fact that crunch time we were outclassed by a team who didn’t bring their A game."

and one Mystic Meg would be proud of
"Sorry to see him go. It will be interesting to see what happens to him next. He’s nowhere near the 1st team at Chelsea currently so the options would appear to be another loan or to be sold (like Brewster) to a struggling Premier League team. "

Just so you know, we still have 16 first team experienced players and 3 due to come back injury, the way you are talking is as if we have 8 players left.

The fee is supposedly £15m. Nobody has a clue whether the sell on is large or not.

That seems like a totally reasonable fee to pay for a 20 year old who has just had an outstanding season in the Championship. Why would Chelsea accept anything less?
Weren't Brighton asking for £35m for Ben White after one season at Leeds?

Seems like a really good deal tbf.

But I can imagine you will have much more in the kitty ? Will you rely on loans ? Getting Cahill to re-sign is vital I would imagine.

No gamble at all. If you agree a big sell on clause when signing a player, all you need do when selling is to add the same percentage on to the asking price so that the buying club funds it for you. It's absolutely guaranteed. Any club that wants to buy wouldn't hesitate about paying 25% over the going rate for a player just because you made a stupid deal with Man United. There is absolutely no chance that a player currently worth £40 million or so, will walk away for nothing at the end of his contract, the season after next.

12 of last seasons under 18’s squad have signed pro deals now, not a bad crop for the first Cat 1 harvest.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this.

I mean it literally means nothing, other that that the academy staff at your club, feel that it is worth keeping those 12 lads on, to fill shirts in your U23 fixtures. Now there MIGHT be really good, future PL players amongst them, but only time will tell whether they are a good 'harvest' or not.

The numbers are literally just numbers. If your staff had decided to also hand contracts to a further few that were released, would you have considered that an even better 'harvest'.

No he was too good to sell.

We would only sell him if "A non-sensical" offer came in.
I wonder why Chelsea decided to sell this young prospect on to you?

I've seen £50m suggested, I've seen £80 million suggested, all I know is that there should be plenty of money to spend because the board have been very tight in recent years, and we've just freed up a huge chunk of the wage bill.

I think we'll definitely offer Cahill an extension. We're certainly looking to bring the average age of the squad down with these signings, but it's helpful to have some experienced heads in and around the squad as well.

This is an enormously important transfer window for the club. I was a bit sceptical we'd be able to pull of a rebuild of this magnitude, but to give Dougie/Vieira/Parish credit, they've made a really impressive start.

Probably because they've got Christensen, Zouma, Rudiger and Thiago Silva ahead of him, who are all excellent, proven players. They have such strength in that position that they're willing to let Tomori sign for AC Milan, who is an even more impressive prospect than Guehi.

Hmmmm so you mean when you needed the Wan Bissaka money to balance the books and then lost £58m the next season....
Yeah, I bet there's loads of money this season.

I suppose we'll see, won't we?
I believe (and I certainly hope) that we're nowhere near done.

Yeah. You see when we went to Chelsea to a sign a promising young defender, who didn't have a clear path into the first team, we got him for £3m.

So back to my first point. What was Parish's opening gambit on signing this promising young talent?
"£15m rising to £20m because we're desperate" sounds about right.

We are no where near done yet. I'd expect another 50m spent on top of Guehi and Olise. Connor Gallagher will be next through the door IMO, most prob a loan.

Fingers crossed they get their comeuppance and sink to the depths they should reside in. It is long overdue but no doubt they'll default, screw local business once more and start again as cpfc 2022
