I'm not convinced he'll be at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Well, he is 59, so in all fairness it’s likely he will pass away before the stand is actually completed.

Textor's massive debts and his strong desire to get his money back out of Palace is a hugely interesting story to follow.
I'm going to stock up with popcorn. This is going to be an interesting watch.

I'm not convinced he'll be at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
to be brutally honest. Hopefully the ownership model remains unchanged for a long time, up the road.
It suits me fine.

There is a risk that Palace would be seen as a good opportunity, for a minor oil-state, looking for a sports-washing opportunity.

Many would see it as needing too much work, it's like buying a £500 car but needing to spend £2,000 to get it working and another £2,000 to get it to look decent.

You can't use the words "washing" and "Palace" in the same sentence.

Before the premier league there used to be the football league, the football league consisted of 4 divisions, 1 being the best and 4 being the worst.

Crystal Palace did mange to go from division 1 to division 3 in consecutive seasons so your guess there is not correct.

Although those seasons we were managed by Malcom Alison and for old fossils like me it really was a golden age, young team playing swashbuckling football, FA cup semi final while being in the 3rd division, Peter Taylor being capped for England while playing for palace in the 3rd division. Sansom, Cannon, Hilaire,Murphy, Gilbert, Nicolas….i might be viewing this with the rose youthfulness spectacles, but football was so much more fun back then.

Was that the much heralded “Team of the Eighties “

How did that work out?

The really interesting thing is that Textor is the least wealthy of the yank owners. Donner and Blitzen (or whatever their names are) are reportedly both wealthier than Tony Bloom.

They just think that committing more of their cash to Palace is a bad investment.
So two out of four of Palace's owners are richer than Tony Bloom?

And Tony Bloom has built a stadium and an elite training centre from scratch and the Palace goons can't build one stand between them. The lolz just keep on coming.

I think that is the difference between your owner being a lifelong FAN or an investor optimistically* looking for a profit.

*other adjectives may well apply!

No one really knows what TB is worth. We can guess but only he really knows.
FWIW my view is that if his investment is £500m, then I would expect his wealth to be at least 4 or 5 times that.

In all likelihood, he, his kids and his grandkids will all pass away before that stand is built. Still, keep the faith. If you build it they will come etc etc

You’d imagine he’d have at least 5x that with a strong understanding of future earnings from his portfolio. At least we know he won’t have to sell us to pay his pension

Here is a Palace question for you...

What have the following lower league clubs all done that Palace have not ?
Leeds , Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton, Wimbledon, Wigan, Birmingham City, Swansea, Burnley, Reading, Stoke, Sunderland, Derby , Coventry, Blackburn, Middlesbrough & Charlton.
(a further clue - QPR & Norwich have also done it but it was easier for them)

let's have it then...

Unfortunately age has caught up with Zaha, I would love to see him in a palace shirt but guess it might spoil the memories.
He was shit at Man Utd & Cardiff as well. Only good got Palace because of how he was treated as a big fish in a small pond

Being able to spend £500m over a period of 15 years is unlikely to have depleted the same value from TBs total net wealth.

I doubt he has spent a great deal more than £50m per year, which would most likely have been comparable to his annual income anyway.
I suspect some of it may have also been offset against his tax bill.
