I know this is an OUTRAGEOUS suggestion to make, but, but, but...

I wonder if maybe, just maybe, it might be in Palace's best interests to now release a teeny tiny bit of that vast pot of 'ring-fenced money' they put aside for the new stand?

Because it exists.

Course it does.

Yes, I got that bit. It still takes you aback when someone (not in politics) says something so false
It was indeed a masterpiece of a call. The twit started out by saying he had no evidence to support the contention (he didn't put it as eloquently as that, but I struggle to paraphrase people who express themselves poorly) but he was nevertheless convinced that the only reason Palace were down the table was because of FFP. He admitted to not knowing how FFP works, but he was dead against it because it favoured all the bigger clubs. Honesty. I have heard better and more coherent justifications for racism over the years than that.

Unfortunately it was on Savage and Sutton and they spent the whole programme bickering and nit-picking over trivia (the notion of thicky Savage acting like a pedant would be laughable were it not so f***ing annoying) and not even listening properly to what the callers were saying. I came close to sending in an email of complaint. Sutton did pick up on the caller's illogic, but I seem to recall that Savage quickly derailed the conversation so the Palace goon was able to leave a mark in the sand.

It has been said that Palace have been disadvantaged by FFR. Fact. Or not fact. Alternative fact.

They made about 30m over the first two seasons and made 5m in the season they sold Wan-Bissaka to Man U for 50m, but out of the other 6 seasons they've released figures for they lost in the region of 200m (of which about 95m was in the two Covid seasons). They've basically spent 165m to tread water for 9 years and put up a bit of cladding.

Thanks.

Given that some of the owners bought there share in recent years, and also that the club wrote off debts in 2010, it's quite difficult to work how much has been spent in total, in order to compare with what we've spent.

Even without any owner investment, they have spent way more than we have.
They had 4 years of premier league money, before we made it, pushes them pretty close to the £400m spend from Tony.
What have they done with it?
Kept Benteke and Zaha in cars and bad fashion and ensured Zaha's agent's children will never have to work.

I remember reading that Luton planned to build their new stadium with the proceeds of one season in the Premier League.
Palace are still £50m away from building a new stand after a decade.

I'm talking about net spend. Teams get paid whilst their in the PL, but it costs money to pay for a team capable of staying in the PL, so that balances out somewhat.

That would be cool.

Palace are still £50m away from building a new stand after a decade.
So you're buying the story that they've got £100m of it?

Did they get the permission they needed from Sainsburys to do the work?

Depends how you look at it.
Have they got the £100m - Ownership combined wealth of £5.5bn - so yes they "have it".
Are the funds "ring-fenced"? No, I'm not buying that.

The Athletic reported in December 22, that a deal had been struck with Sainsburys.
About this time Parish claimed that they would "Break Ground" by the end of 2023.

This is typical Beaky.
Happy with blaming Sainsburys for as long as was possible, then paying up to get some Positive spin, whilst Vieria was imploding in the league.
When the deadline for the work started looming, he floats the "£50m" shortfall ruse, to explain the further delay.

The reason they bang on about net Spend is because they win that argument.

It is nowhere near as big a gap as they purport, for the reasons you state.
But it is still a factor.

I would guess average owner funded losses are in the region of £20m per season.

McKenna odds have fallen quite a bit in the last couple of days, probably someone has lumped on as not sure why he would leave Ipswich at this point in time. Maybe in the Summer though if Ipswich fail to go up.

By lumped on, you actually mean 'put a tenner on'.

Quite a bit of Twitter chatter about McKenna taking the role.
He’d be mad to at this stage.
By the end of the season Ipswich could be in the Premier League and Palace in the Championship.
Must be high up on our succession plan list too you’d think.
Still, I expect that Palace are looking at him at present as he’s probably their best option.

Any top half champ/prem manager, with an owner that will back him, won't look at the Palace job.

The reason they bang on about net Spend is because they win that argument.

I think it's a fair argument though. If there are two clubs, one balances the books (laughable that we're pretending that that could be Palace, but go with it) and the other spends more than their income, then it's reasonable to expect the one spending more to perform better on the field. That is the argument being put forward by Jordan.

I don't think the argument stacks up, but I'd rather be sure with facts, than just assuming.

If we take 2009/2010 as a starting point, when Bloom bought Brighton, and Palace (let's be kind here) were reborn. How much debt was written off by their admin (Jordan says about £50m to him, but there were of course other creditors) and then how much further money has been spent on getting them to where they are today (quiet at the back)? - note I appreciate we may not know, but I think these are the relevant details.

Blimey! The only difference in value between the two squads is Mitoma? I think not.

With a fully fit squad we would have as much value on our bench as they would have in their starting XI
:lolol::lolol::lolol:
Transfermarkt's valuations are always very low.
Particularly overseas players, signed from outside Europe

As an example
  • Enciso - €22.00m
  • Buonanotte - €12.00m
  • Pervis - €35.00m
  • Adingra - €25.00m
  • Joao Pedro - €35.00m
Our overall valuation suffers more than Palace's in this regard

Yeah, point taken. Those valuations are laughable. I'd suggest all of these players are actually worth close to treble what has been written there.

Yeah agreed.

The main difference between the clubs is that every penny of Bloom's investment stays on the balance sheet.
You would need to go through every one of Palace's Financial statements for the past 14 years and tot up the pre-tax profit/loss values.
