Not being completely ITK about footballers contracts (OK I know nothing) can someone enlighten me regarding the very soon to be out of contract players.
Lets assume that they don't all sign contract extensions in the next 13 .5 hours, I believe they all become free agents. If this is the case, then if they do sign on again for Palace tomorrow will they all (and their agents) expect to get the signing on fees any new player would.

I wouldn't worry about preferential treatment as an Arsenal old boy, I was told on good authority that at this level loaning players is a science and the transfer of a valuable asset. It's all about player development, style of play at the loaning club, the needs of the player in terms of game time and development etc etc, long gone have been the days of do us a favour and take this lump of our hands ... apparently.

BTW, still not signed and a lot of players are about to become available on the open market!

I think even if they signed a week ago, they would’ve expected a bonus.

Should we be surprised? I expect total ignorance from palace fans and, yet again, they have not disappointed me

Best prepare yourself, for your club being labelled as RACIST by all the usual media talking heads, whenever Viera ultimately gets sacked - even if he's been there four years, and taken you down to League Two.

Its a definite gamble of an appointment. Could do well for them, or could be another De Boer. The spin will be that they're appointing an exciting young manager with great links to big clubs from his playing days, and all that may be true but its certainly a risky type of appointment for the start of a big squad rebuild. Too much room for his relative inexperience at managing in a top league for things to go wrong, and if its does that leaves Palace with their budget blown and facing a mid season manager change in a relegation scrap. Absolute toss of a coin which way it will go, i highly doubt it will be a boring season of lower mid table mediocrity.

All appointments and even transfers are a gamble to some degree.

The difference when we appointed Potter was that it was within a week of Hughton leaving and he was our first choice, we'd been tracking him for a while and we maximised the time he had in the close season to evaluate our players and set transfer targets.

Vieira has pretty much come out of no where, I doubt he's been tracked and analysed anywhere near as much as we did with GP, he certainly wasn't first choice. Given the length of time it's taken to appoint him, and the number of players out of contract its certainly created a tougher start to his tenure than would have been ideal for Palace.

Except we had him in the plan before we released Hughton and didn't flog ourselves around most of the out of work coaches prior to appointing our fifth or sixth choice

Feels more like a Sammi Hyppia appointment. Sammi had done reasonably well before being sacked, and also had a good playing career, although not the same as PV. Did PV win the CL with Inter?

It's an odd one.

"Ex-player with links to big clubs" must be true of half a dozen or more other candidates.
Some with Premier league managerial experience.

It could work out for them, but with no real track record, Parish's panic button could well be pressed if they get off to a bad start.
Then what?

Well his managerial roles have neither been really good or really bad so it’s hard to say.

Yes why not, new manager new players you have got to try something new sometimes….put me down as excited.
