Benteke scored 10, Maupay scored 8. You scored one goal more than us yet you conceded 20 more goals than us. You’ve lost Cahill and Van Aanholt which won’t help your cause defensively. Our season was about our inability wins games that we controlled. Your season was about hanging on a getting points when you could.

You need at least four more experienced signings which will cost you the best part of £60million …. Good Luck with that.

As for Paddy. If you had a settled squad and weren’t running around like blue arsed flies trying to get a squad together then he might have a chance, but his time in the US and France shows that he tends to lose his way. FWIW, he didn’t have to build a team when he took over at either of those two clubs.

The fact that you just talked up Van Aanholt as a good defender says it all, the guy was a shocking defender but good going forward. The signing of Guehi is a great bit of business, he was unreal last season in the Championship for Swansea and I have no doubts he will help improve our defence.

60m you say? The rumour is its an 80m war chest that Patrick has at his disposal :clap2:

We did play shit at the Amex in attack, we offered very little. Defensively we were brilliamt though.

Nothing wrong with pacy, counter attacking football like we played at OT ???

Apart from the 66 goals you conceded …..

You were trying to make out Vieira will be playing dour football, there is nothing to suggest that is the case so far.

Nope!

I was referring to a couple of comments I'd seen on his managerial style.

A quick google has yielded this:

"As a player, Vieira was known for his direct midfield play. He would gather the ball and charge forward, injecting pace into his team and bringing dynamism to the game.
He may not have been an attacking midfielder, per say, but he was certainly capable of injecting excitement into the game.

As a coach, he is the polar opposite. Vieira is a coach who values possession first and foremost.
During the 2020/21 season, Nice had more possession than their opponents in 10 of their 11 matches that Vieira oversaw, yet managed only 16 goals.
Furthermore, had it not been for some extraordinary efficiency in front of goal, Vieira’s record would have looked far worse.
His side scored with every shot on target they managed in the first three games of the season – five in total.

This low-tempo approach was both uninteresting to watch and unsuccessful – a toxic combination."

He doesn't come into the job with a reputation for free-flowing football.
So not exactly "lies" from me now was it?

Its one opinion, don't believe everything you read on the Internet! Reality is he got them to 5th in his first season, not bad at all. Let's be honest, whoever wrote that article is prob just a bitter Nice fan!

Not really, think we'd stay up with the team we have now.

4-5 more quality signings and we can push for top half.

Yes it is a good signing (not great business though as you're paying at the top end)
We did the same with Webster (who had also been "unreal" in the Championship) and he was dodgy at times in his first season.
Fortunately he had Dunk beside him to learn from and he has now developed into a good Premier league defender.

Expecting Guehi to come out of the blocks flying in the Premier League is asking a lot.
He will now be playing against some of the best attackers in World football.
There will be a transition period and he will need experienced professionals beside him.
Keep Cahill and you may well get the best out of him, but expecting him to flourish on his own is risky.

He made into the Dutch squad. He’s not shit and for you to imply as much is stupid.

80million where have you read that? Is it separate from 100m set aside for the new stand that should have been finished by now?

My guess is he knows more about Viera's time at Nice than either of us.

He also states:

"Nice are one of the richest Ligue 1 sides and boasted significant investment during his spell in charge, though he was unable to translate that into the success they should have enjoyed.

Indeed, finishes of seventh and fifth were flattering in his two completed seasons, and he was sacked in December 2020 with the club foundering in 11th, having just lost at home to a Dijon side that won only four matches all season.
Furthermore, they had suffered a humiliating 6-2 defeat in the Europa League to Bayer Leverkusen."

Basically the French top league is even more closed shop than the SPL, so 5th is not exactly proof of great managerial prowess

Why did he join us? Because we have a big name at the helm, one of the greatest Premier League players ever. Because we give youth a chance (Zaha, Wan Bissaka, Mitchell, Eze etc), because we have the most passionate fan base in the league, because we are an established side now in this division having been in the league for 9 years and lastly because London is a bloody awesome city to live in :clap2:

If you say it often enough everyone might start believing it.

So where do you think Palace will finish this season?

No one knows - Bookies reckon you'll be 17th, but that's before you've finished your transfer business, so pretty irrelevant.

I think you will do very well to finish above 15th.
Not just because of the rivalry, but mainly because of the transition you are undergoing.
