The beatles were not as innovative as people would like to think. there first two albums were basic watered down rock n roll covers of carl perkins etc, they even styled there name off buddy holly. and as for moving on with lyrics like "she loves me yeah yeah yeah"..........Very innovative.

the kinks, who, yardbirds did exactly the same as the rolling stones british twist on the "BLUES"......

Gotta stick up for The Kinks there. Ray Davies is a fantastic writer and storyteller.

Plus, "You really shot me" is my favourite tabloid headline of all time...

Abby Road is one of the finest albums i have ever heard.

Yes the first two albums were of covers. But what about the other 10 of 12 that they release in 8 years. You dont get that anymore.

The Rolling Stones.

Yes they had alot of hits and sold alot of records.

But compared to their contempories eg Beatles, Kinks, Who, Yardbirds they were way behind in being innovative and overall showing a great degree of creativity outside being just a very good rock n roll band.

To suggest The Rolling Stones were not as innovative as The Beatles is laughable. The Beatles were the equivalent of take that, nice pop songs but hardly innovative.

It's ok, I spotted the mistakes and have adjusted your post accordingly.

I Cannot believe people are saying coldplay and U2 Are overated fair enough its not your types of music does not mean that someone is neccasirly overated just means its not your taste
Both U2 And coldplay have millions if not billions of fans worldwide and both sell out most arenas they visit
Over-rated in my mind are people who have no talent and i believe coldplay especially have alot of talent they write there own music play there own music and always sing live
And if your still not convinced millions disagree with you

some quite funny comments. It really is incredible that anyone who has any appreciation of modern music can call the Beatles, Stones, Who and Kinks as overrated, since they (along with a few others) pretty much created the seeds of all that you hear today. you've had 40 odd years of hearing their stuff, so to you its not innovative. just because you dont like the personalities or because you want to look clever and trendy by dismissing them.

now, U2 and Oasis, thats overrated for you. all fine, have a nice sing-along-to, but not really anything more, and in the case of U2 good touring (at least i assume thats the appeal).

I have nothing to catch up on mate, your list just proves my point, great pop songs. I have nothing against the Beatles they wrote nice songs pehaps its just our different perception of innovative.
