The squad rotation system is ok if you have superstars like Chelsea who can slot into a system without any difficulty. However, we are not Chelsea and surely playing a regular front two and back four is the way forward so as they can get used to one another and 'gel' as a team. I'm not particularly fussed (within reason) who this front two and back four are but I just wish we would stick with whoever is chosen for a run of games for them to build up an understanding of one another.

Also, when did this resting players thing start? Surely the players can play all the games? I bet Guy Butters plays every game this holiday period. If he can be fit enough to do it, why can't everyone else?

Somebody mentioned if Tank plays on sat he would have played every game this year

I assume you are someone that considers mcghee to be doing a wonderful job?

like someone says out side eyes sometimes help.

It always amazes me how people think they can do better than a proven manager. If this "Ex Pro" is so good, why isn't he a manager himself? It's very easy to criticise a manager, or players based on one match where we know some of the players were not match fit, but you have to work with players over a period of time to know their full potential.

Do you have off days at work? No, then you must be a frigging robot.

Some times an extra set of eyes can spot problems that others can't see as it is sometimes difficult to see the wood from the trees.

To answer another question my friend is a succesful business man who had no desire to go into management or coaching and the uncertainty that it brought.

People can read the game well but not necessarily be a good coach or manager.

Managers need man management and communication skills as well as the ability to analyse games.

It sounded like on the radio that Luton were better in midfield. Worth a go with the 4-4-2 as on paper our midfield looked quite good. But, alas, Luton seemed to be better.

The usual solution is to bung an extra midfielder on, but by half-time we were already chasing the game.

As I always say, you can only play on one wing at a time. No point in having two wingers unless the winger can fill in as a narrow function midfielder when the other winger is out wide.

If we do play one player only upfront, it cannot be Leon Knight as he has not got the stamina to cover the ground chasing after lost causes.

A hard working competent mifdfielder is what we need. I thought the pairing of Hammond and Carpenter would be good enough but apparently NOT ???

WHAT MM SHOULD HAVE DONE AT THE BEGINING OF THE SEASON IS TO PAIR HAMMOND AND NICOLAS IN THE CENTRE OF MIDFIELD, AND GIVEN THEM TIME TO BOND, INSTEAD OF LEAVING A YOUNG, TALENTED NICOLAS ON THE BENCH AND PLAY OLDER PLAYERS WHO CAN'T RUN. BEFORE SOME OF YOU START. HOW CAN NICOLAS LOOK SHARP WHEN HE ONLY PLAYES ABOUT 15 MINS EVERY 4 WEEKS. ITS MM FAULT WE ARE NOW WHERE WE ARE AND NO ONE ELSES.

He sees Mayo every day in training and he still picks him.

I think that MM should have given Nicholas an extended run but as everybody is quick to point out MM sees him everyday in training.

I assume those people where the same ones that slated him for keeping on lee, piercy and the like? funny how the "he sees him everyday in training" point only works one way.

NICOLAS HAS BEEN INJURED FOR A LOT OF THE SEASON, AND ON HAMMOND'S EARLY SEASON FORM YOU COULD NOT LEAVE HIM OUT. CARPENTER IS AN AUTOMATIC CHOICE WHEN FIT AND WITH TWO DECENT WINGERS THERE IS NO PLACE IN THE MIDFIELD FOR NICOLAS.

NICOLAS LOOKED A DECENT PLAYER BUT HE HAS NOT FOUND ANY FORM THIS SEASON IN THE GAMES I HAVE SEEN HIM PLAY.

I think Nicolas has to be paired with Carpenter, if only to give him a run in the side and Hammond a rest. Nicolas needs to be given a run in the side, he is clearly our central midfielder with the most potential.

Also I think we should try and swap Knight for a left back, therefore killing two birds with one stone.

yes - im not surpsied when the alternative at left back is reid

the only reason mayo is anywhere near the team is our lack of left backs, whereas nicolas is not in there becuase we have a suprisingly decent amount of midfielders ahead of him

Well El-Abd played alright at left back but he still put Mayo in and seemed to think he would be ok at this level.

'suprisingly decent amount of midfielders'?!? Who? Carpenter is good but getting on a bit, Hammond is a good prospect but his form has been poor, Oatway isn't really up to this level and Reid has done nothing to prove he should be playing in that position. Nicolas showed glimpses of what he is capable of last year and needs a run in the team. From what I have seen he could be the best of the lot.

To be fair, front players generally have to do a bit more chasing than the guys at the back (ideally), so there are fitness issues to consider, particularly with a young player like CKR who I think McGhee has said has some fitness issues.

Having said that, the main issue though is that, in the case of the central defence, these players pick themselves, whereas there are not many of our strikers with consistent enough performances to be putting their hands up to be selected every game. I think that's why McGhee is so focused on bringing in a new striker.
