It depends on vote concentration and spread. In 1983 the SDP scored 25% of the vote but only took 11 seats.

Whilst the polling at the moment is quite extraordinary I think it would change at an election. But, certainly, I think the landscape would look different.

I'm not sure that a new party with 600 untried, inexperienced and not properly vetted candidates is what we want.

Then again, looks like a large number don't care now.

While I agree that large percentage of votes don't necessarily transfer to seats, I think that, in this case, they will. The reason is that large amount of support for the LDs - that will split the anti-Tory votes.

The other reason is - as you so rightly put it - lots of people don't care any more. When you see that 60% of Tory voters would be happy to see the economy wrecked as long as they got Brexit, it's obvious that normal patterns of behaviour don't mean anything.

I think there has been some dodgy dealing for this to happen, Rory Stewart had something different from the other candidates and was becoming a threat. Pity as there was LOTS of support for him on the 5Live phone in this morning, these stages until the last two are chosen by MP's and we all know how corrupt Tory MP's can be. If he had made it to the final two it could have been a close thing for Boris, now it's a coronation from here on in.

So are we saying 10-15 Boris MPs voted Stewart to ensure he finished above Raab so that Raab was eliminated, then with "Job Done" they return to voting for Boris?

If that is the case then considering Boris's vote only went up by 17 it is possible Boris got less than a quarter of the new Raab votes.

I suppose we should now watch out for Javid's support to swell with Boris voters so Gove is eliminated in the same manner.

All very dodgy. Where will this leave Raab in a Boris Cabinet if he has fallen victim to Boris machinations?
