Oh do bore off.

You clearly didn’t get the humour and the fact Brighton and Hove has battled with a massive seagull population for years to the extent for some people, it epitomises the City.

I guess you have to live there to appreciate the joke.

I’ll be honest; I’m not sure “costal town has a lot of seagulls” requires a lifetime of living in Brighton to understand.

About 10 seconds if you are a naive tourist on the sea front who's just walked away from the fish and chip fan and has decided to get a picture of yourself holding up your fare with the pier sign in the background.

Gava, you say 'I've also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea'.

What was Paul Barber's response?
I suspect that, even though it's a PBOBE response, it may be one line....

But I didn't know you had to email the football club to get their permission to make a political and administrative change to the place they are from. I think Tony may have embarked on a mission creep here.

Hello everyone. Gutted about the result today, but we’ll bounce back stronger as always.

I want to share something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and it’s now live as a petition.
Recently, I shared the idea with the City Council, and they suggested starting a petition to gauge public interest.

Here’s the petition link if you’d like to sign

My idea is to simplify the city’s name from Brighton & Hove to just Brighton. Importantly, this wouldn’t erase Hove’s identity—it would still be recognized as a distinct and proud part of Brighton, much like areas like Chelsea are in London. This change is about creating a unified and stronger identity for the city as a whole.

The petition needs 1,250 signatures to move forward, so every voice counts.

As a lifelong Brighton fan, season ticket holder, and someone who deeply cares about our city, I’ve also emailed Paul Barber to make sure the club would be okay with this idea. If the club were against it, I wouldn’t go any further with it.

Right now, I’m just trying to gauge interest and see what the wider community thinks. Personally, I believe the City of Brighton sounds more streamlined and powerful while still preserving Hove’s unique identity as part of something bigger.

Once again, here’s the link to the petition if you’d like to share your views.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, whether you agree or not.
Are all your endeavours as monstrously stupid as this one?

Please don’t put any more time and energy into this absurd nonsense.

What a load of nonsense.

Sorry.

Like i keep stating Hoves identity will not be lost. Its the complete opposite; Hove will thrive under the change because they will then become Hove in Brighton that will then gain more recognition for every single business, helping them financially and then helping the cities economy grow.

Well you would think so wouldn’t you 😀.

But the irony of naming Brighton & Hove City as ‘Seagull City’ in response to Gava’s bizarre suggestion the City be renamed to accommodate his love of the Club, was lost to many …

I don’t think it was lost on anyone if I’m brutally honest. It’s just staggeringly unfunny.

But nobody has a 100% success rate so don’t worry about it x

This and the Starmer petition have made me realise that there should also be an opportunity provided to indicate that you think the opposite.

Perhaps this is worth a petition?

It wasn’t supposed to be particularly funny - it was an ironic observation on the local population of seagulls -and a piss take on the OP FFS - among all the other fairly unfunny pisstakes on this thread - including the OPs.

There was no reason to single out my response to the OP as being anything more or less than that - or use it to take the opportunity to make an unnecessary dig.

Geezus

What a frickin ridiculous thread and utter waste of cyberspace.
