i like grounds that make an effort to blend in, or add to

Well the nearest thing to the stadium is a University and a big arse A road. How do you blend in to that?

but that is the wider backdrop of the stadium, as relevant as the road or university, people forget that if you actually turn around at falmer, it is/was a very beautiful place.

I understand what you are saying, but that googlemaps shot doesn't reveal the contours of the land in that area (really hilly) - The Drove is actually on a ridge, anybody on the other side of it from the Stadium wouldn't actually be able to see the ground (that's more than 50% of the image), which is just as well because the landscape on the other side really is pretty.

Southend's have ground to a hault:yahoo:

Why do you seem to be happy that another football club's ground move has come to a halt?
Considering all the problems we have had I thought you may have had some sympathy?

i was at the galpharm (mcalpine) stadium the other day and even at 15 years old it is one of the most impressive pieces of contemporary architecture in the country.

it won the RIBA building of the year in 1995, and today still looks stunning.

it is sad how football continues to snub aesthetic qualities to improve their own business case ... across the board from club branding, new logos, stadiums and kit design - it's generally shite.

i was sad when the new plans for falmer weren't as impressive as the originals, and it won't be the new 'wow' stadium in the country (hudds will hold onto that for a long time, with the emirates, wembley and the stunning city of manchester all running close), but at least it's a bit special, with the transparent roofing sure to be it's most impressive feature.

True enough its a nice stadium, but the one a ground should have is a good atmosphere inside and the Galpharm just doesn't. The open corners simply let the noise out.

Way out west
...not bad for a village with a population of around 3000...that works out at ten seats each, I bet there is a real scramble to put the towels down when the turnstiles open!!!

Haven't Brentford been talking about a new ground for several years now? One that was going to be accessible by monorail I remember reading.

Griffin Park is pretty ramshackle but you've gotta love the pubs on every corner, and it'd be a shame to lose that.

EDIT: Just found it in fact:
