Pleased to see Hugo get lots of noms, very pleased to see that they didn't forget Midnight in Paris and The Tree of Life.

Lack of nominations for Drive is a complete joke though - how anyone could think films like The Help or War Horse deserve a Best Picture nod is beyond me. Also very puzzling not to see Fassbender nominated for Best Actor.

How on earth is War Horse worthy of a Best Pictur nom? A very weak year at the Oscars.

Best Picture

Best Cinematography
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing
Best Original Score

So... it's looks and sounds great, but the acting and directing are lacking, it appears.

I am not going to get into the merits or not of War Horse but Alan is sort of right. Not so much lacking as these are the top awards and for hundreds of films and actors or directors in any given year to get in the top 4 or 5 is exceptional. The Academy have decided it is exceptional in the categories high lighted by Alan.

Anyway whether worthy or not I think the Artist will clean up. War Horse will come closest with Cinematograpy and Score.

Anyway I predict

Film - The Artist
Director - Martin Scorcese for Hugo
Actor - George Clooney, The Descendants
Actress - Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs - a bit of a punt here
Supporting Actor - Max von Sydow, extremely loud and incredibly close
Supporting Actress - Berenice Bejo, the artist

3 techincal awards. Whatever you think of the film you can't deny these aspects of the film are stunning.

Well despite the fact that no one on NSC seems to have a good word to say about War Horse is has topped the UK box office for 2 weeks smashing all before it and taken close to £ 10 000 000 in 10 days so some people like it. Anyway I have seen 3 of the 9 nominated. Fassbender and the nature of the graphic sex and language was too much for the Academy. Tilda Swinton should have been nominated for we need to talk about Kevin and Lars Von Tryer may have got some nods for Melancholia if he did not say he was a fan of Hitler.

Am I right, Tinker Tailor gets no best pic but Warhorse does? FFS. Oh and just because loads of people have seen Warhorse in the first ten days doesn't mean they liked it, just means they went to see it.

For someone who works in finance, Gareth, I'm surprised you still haven't worked out the difference between quality and quantity.

What I am saying is that a lot of people like the film.

Ok WAR HORSE IS ABSOLUTE SHIT. Ok, can we move on now. You are right am I am wrong. Thats what you wanted to hear. I am a useless twat regarding films and anything and everything I ever say can be treated with utter contempt.

Right , now perhaps we can discuss matters with the knowledge you are always right.

Anyway everyone is wanking over the Artist which to me " looks " a steaming pile of shit. There was a reason silent films stopped 100 years ago. I will however judge the film fairly WHEN I see it , something you never do and making remarks about how many nominations a film got and you haven't even f***ing seen it !
