Chancellor George Osborne has abandoned his target to restore government finances to a surplus by 2020.
In a speech he said, given the effects of the referendum vote, the government had to be "realistic about achieving a surplus by the end of the decade".
The target had been the chancellor's most prized goal and had been driving austerity measures in previous budgets.
But he said the economy is showing "clear signs" of shock following the vote to leave the European Union.
Giving a speech in Manchester, Mr Osborne said: "The referendum is expected to produce a significant negative economic shock to our economy. How we respond will determine the impact on jobs and growth.
"We must provide fiscal credibility, continuing to be tough on the deficit while being realistic about achieving a surplus by the end of the decade."

Yeah, like it was ever going to happen anyway :tosser:

I mentioned that in the Corbyn must go thread, at PMQ's on Wednesday Jeremy Corbyn asked Dodgy Dave to suspend it due to the situation the Tories have got us in and Flashman told him no way, 2 days later and it's been suspended.

And people think Corbyn is not a decent leader of the Labour Party ? Another victory alongside tax credits and many other things the Tory boys keep quiet on

Think they should send the 'Eton Rifles' to Syria-good target practise for Daesh and no loss for us.

It is not just Osborne though is it, this whole Tory front bench have continuously lied, missed targets, back tracked and generally f****d things up.
They treat the public as total mugs and truly believe that anything they say will be believed by us.
They have used any excuse to create their austerity measures which is basically to make the poor poorer, the needy more needy and the rich richer.
They have twisted figures to either make themselves look good or to use them as excuses.
And then you have Gove who is a class A pillock, sacked for cocking up our childrens education and has a chance to become PM.
The mind boggles, i am old enough to have seen many governments, some where totally awful, but this shambles are probably the worst bunch of lying, greedy, out of touch, hopeless cretins i have seen.
It would be nice to see some honest tory voters on here admit that they are just an embarrassing mess.

Tory lies and further evidence that this chancellor is failing this country and putting it into more debt by out of control borrowing whilst making the ordinary people pay for it.

We are in the mess because of the spineless cretin that is Corbyn, he only had to share the stage and Unite with Cameron and remain and you remoaners would of had your way, Corbyn is a coward who will only turn up to demos and preach to the converted, that's why he can't stand PMQ's, that's why he hid from the remain campaign and that means he is a coward. The bloke is a grunt.

Hardly surprising the target has been dropped given the result of the referendum. And then we get the local labour councillor in this weeks Brighton Independent raving about how a devalued pound is brillant for Brighton and Hove as more foreign tourists will visit. Completely overlooking the higher oil prices which will increase transport and distribution costs and given that there is no certainty that the increase in tourists will happen given that they may believe they won't be welcomed or indeed that they will spend more.
Which just shows the high caliber of councillor that we have locally.

250000 members think they're not fit to be MP's and won't be much longer

So Jeremy will be the leader of the labour party which will end up with about as my seats as the Liberals so that the SNP become the official oppostion. He must be doing a great job

Some of these government targets are just embarrassing, as if they really have the power or capability to influence what businesses do re employment or investment.

They tinker around the edges, take credit for any growth there is and when things take a downturn it's always somebody else's fault, i.e. Brexit, the Labour Party, irresponsible American banks.

Osborne can do one of two things - tinker or f*ck things up. The Lib Dems reined him in for 5 years so he tinkered, now they're gone he's f*cking things up.

Osbourne likes to fix the roof while the sun is shining.

I guess he reckons the weather isn't so great.

And perhaps 250000 members would have liked him even more if he'd stuck two fingers up a the PLP and gone for leave. Many of them did, apparently!
