Why did the Americans kill him, why not just capture him and question him?

It was a 'firefight' and I suspect the lure of his seventy two virgins was too attractive to pass up on. Actually I would imagine that the troops who found him were too busy making sure nobody could fire back, chances are that they may not have realised which one he was until after the smoke had cleared.

Good news, but won't really have much of an impact now. If anything, there will be a rise in terrorism in the next few months I expect.

Also, I don't think it's appropriate for all these americans to be chanting and celebrating his death. No matter how evil someone is, celebrating a death is just wrong.

Why did the Americans kill him ?
After all they were such good pals during the eighties.
Why the Americans and the British used to help him out with all sorts of parcels.

It took the US 10 YEARS to kill ONE man.

The good news is that the relatives Robert Eaton and the many thousand soldiers and civilians can now put their minds at ease, knowing the man responsible for their deaths is gone.

Yet I still feel concerned, the difference between Hitler and Bin Laden was that Hitler knew he was done for, and so committed suicide and burned to keep his body from being paraded around Germany by the Red army, America have killed Bin Laden the face of the many terrorist attacks ever since 9/11. It's far from the end. And there will be someone to take his place, or it at least separates out into smaller groups.

very strange timing, when these sort of things come out of nowhere like this so much happens so fast...but the fallout is going to be VERY interesting

Whilst I kinda agree with your sentiments, I can perfectly understand New Yorkers celebrating the demise of the orchestrator of the twin towers attack.

if you consider how much activity islamic led terrorism there has been recently, i'm not convinced we'll see any significant "retaliation". probably some posturing from affiliate groups and a few soft targets in the middle east attacked.

very strange timing

what is stange about the timing?

Time to start working on the first of many Henry Cooper/Osama Bin Laden related jokes!

Think this is exceptional- like the death of hitler. This fucker's cronies missed me at edgware road and then tavistock square by a matter of minutes. A uni mate of mine wasn't so lucky- although only his trousers were injured, he left london pretty sharpish afterwards.

The clinic I managed at the time was on alert for cuts and bruises casualty overspill, despite UCLH A+E being officially stood down that week because of moving into its new building, and very few of our docs and nurses being in the building cos of the police cordon. Only one social worker (a californian, take a bow sarah) had adequate disaster councilling experience. I won't forget all those traumatised people walking around stunned. No one could help them adequately at the time.

Part of me wanted him to be handed over to Mossad as a big f*** you to al qaeda.
