There's a hell of a lot of detail that I haven't mentioned. You'll just have to take my word that the involvement of the Spanish authorities isn't "today's news".

The family found out the "reason" Omar had been arrested when his lawyer was informed by the US authorities that Spanish intelligence possessed a video tape showing Chechen rebels in training and that the Spanish authorities were alleging that Omar Deghayes appeared in that tape.

That tape was then able to be scrutinised by experts and it was demonstrated beyond doubt that the individual alleged to be Omar Deghayes was, in fact, not him, but someone else - subsequently identified as Abu Walid, who died in 2004.

The ONLY case against Omar was the tape. The fact that it has been proven not to be him probably explains the willingness of the US authorities to release him. What has taken the time to achieve this has been the reluctance of the UK government in Blair's time to negotiate a deal with the Americans to accept UK non-citizen residents back into Britain. Brown has taken a different position, done the negotiations (which no doubt include a range of "safeguards") and only now has Omar been allowed back into the UK.

Why the arrest then ...???????????

Why do the Spanish want to arrest and question him then...sorry there is more to this man than meets the eye..

ETA at a guess.

Why does he not go to Pakistan where his wife and kids are. They run a nice camp site there.

And the fact that the Americans go around acting like world police when they're no better than anyone else - and our government align themselves with them - is what really puts our country at risk. Locking up so-called suspects on little or no evidence makes it much easier for the terrorists to recruit the next generation of 'home-grown' bombers

I guess they are the World Police and most of the Western World support this, probably not a bad thing, I reckon.

Better than say Russia, China, Iran or Saudi I say.

You gotta remember that they were attacked by these terrorists.

If I was that bothered I'd have responded in kind. I'm not getting precious at all here. Quite calm and lucid. Just ask anyone else on here. You'll know soon enough if I've felt slighted.

....And I don't doubt for one moment that you will carry on posting on here about him. At this stage of the proceedings though, I suspect that no-one is going to be swayed one way or the other by any more posts on the subject. There doesn't even seem to be any consensus here. What Edward de Bono would call "I am right, you are wrong".

So...to reiterate ADoo's question - are you going tonight? How do you rate our chances, will Coxy or Fraser start and have we seen the last of Bas?

I kinda didnt want to get too defensive about attending the matches.

If the authority of peoples opinions on here were somehow increased by the number of games you attend.......then we really are in the shit !!!!!

But for the record I am probably doing alright in the attendance league on here ..... except away games I would say that you might have to be having a particularly good 2 seasons to beat me !!!!

Sorry dont quite get you !!

So your point being ????

Never mind, here goes then:

1) There's a game of association football taking place at the Withdean Stadium in Brighton tomorrow evening and, since this message board is used primarily by supporters of one of the participant teams for discussing football related matters, I wondered if you might be attending?
2) However, since I haven't seen any indication that you're a supporter of either team so may not be familiar with the stadium location, transport, parking arrangements etc, I attached a link which gives directions to the Withdean.
3) I hope to post some information on the BHBCC's post-game bus arrangements sometime later today but please don't start getting 'picky' if I get the service number or bus colour wrong as I don't live in Brighton now.
4) I don't live in Thornton Heath, Gillingham or Peacehaven either.
5) I have been to Spain (incl Madrid), Pakistan and Cuba.
6) I studied at two universities but have only one degree; my wife studied at two and has two degrees.
7) My father used to call me subversive.
8) I was once arrested by the Met Police but released without charge.

There is other information on all the above points which I have chosen not to mention.

Is that someone knocking at the door?

Read what I said, I don't like people blowing OUR country to bits. Couldn't give a flying f*** what the Americans get up to. Yes that may be selfish but quite frankly I don't care.

The world is a shitty place, bad things happen, get over it. All we can do is try and protect our own. This guy was wanted by the Yanks and now is wanted by the Spanish that suggests to me he is not quite the honest Joe he's making himself out to be.

The fact that there are people like him living in Brighton, bomb factories being discovered in Crawley, training camps being run at Mark Cross and most importantly that I spend the working week in the center of London worries me. I don't want this on my doorstep!

So no, I have no sympathy for the bloke, I don't care how long he was locked up for without charge. As I said in my first post there is no smoke without fire, despite what you liberals think they don't just pick any old mushes from off the street and lock them up.

The government clearly can't publish the reasoning for keeping these guys locked up for so long but they must have had good enough reason to. How often are people locked up for crimes they are later proven not to have committed? Not very often.
