Very, very impressive so far. Hard act to follow.. we'll probably get a few morris dancers for 2010.

Yeah catch them off guard by holding the ceremony 2 years early

Opening ceremonies should either be low-key: Euro 2008, say, or the 2006 world cup, or insanely spectacular. Anything between the two is PANTS.

I have been identifying premises for the business that will oversee our "stage sets" lets say they are working within a very small % budget of the Chinese, the result of the usual fear by our authorities, that the media will attack them of wasting money.

They are hoping for 7,000 volunteers and expect and plan for a high drop out rate!

that was bloody amazing choreography. London wont top or even think they can top that, Seoul was indeed the only closest opening ceremony in the same league that I've seen

I don't think we should even bother with fireworks after today. We've got to think ouside the box and be clever.Preferably on the cheap somehow.

have to say it was awesome - how many thousands must have rehearsed for a year at least to get that right? Hope someone sees sense for 2012 and does a techno jobby - all lights and graphics and less chance for us to embarrass ourselves. Certainly can't compete with today

It was impressive, either side of the athletes entering the stadium (boring as hell!)

I think we will do alright. The London New Year fireworks have been spectacular the last few years so I'm sure we won't be too embarrassed.

If the opening ceremony at the Falmer Seagulls Nest is half as good as Beijings Birds Nest then I will be impressed. :D

To be honest I'm hoping London does tone it down a bit. I hate the way budgets spiral out of control and this pointless attempt to out-do the event four years previous.
.

Dont worry. You can rest assured that our nation will revert to type and a) will do it on the cheap and b) will no dount be second best.
