It depends upon where they would / might start but I suppose you could look at their history in Europe before writing them off as potential challengers.
However with access to Sky, BT etc. money they would be up there challenging given their 40,000 / 50,000 season ticket holders and sponsorship.
In addition, any club wherever with access to similar rewards/funding would probably do pretty well.
Do they do well in Europe? I don’t ever remember them getting very far in recent years.
I’d imagine the deal would be they get told they are coming into the league at the start of x season. Let’s assume they get a season’s notice. They can borrow against their upcoming PL income, but that gets them £100m. Do they have a squad that can compete when they get a few £20m players, a couple of £10m and increase some wages? Most top-end Championship teams struggle in the first few seasons, so I suppose it depends if we think the top of the SPL is a higher level than the top of the Championship?
