Northern Irish and Welsh too don't forget. Maybe not too much at the moment but in the past there have been players that would have made a Britain team much stronger than an England one......if you can't think of some of them you must be very very young :D
As a side issue, I'm trying to think of Northern Ireland players who would ever have made the England side of their time.

So far I've got:
Geroge Best - obviously
Pat Jennings (arguable - Banks, then Shilton & Clemence)
Martin O'Neill - maybe. We were crap in the '70s but got better in the early '80s.

Anyone else?

You reckon? I think it would be great

Works for the Olympics and it gives us a chance on the World stage which we flatter to deceive on as England in football.

It would be crap. I support and follow England, but do not consider myself British. Now that the Scots and Welsh are allowed to shout about being that, being English gives us some idenity.

On a side note where would you play the games? You would have to segregate the home fans.

No we wouldn't. I think you forget that English fans already put up with Yorkshermen and Scousers in the crowd. :jester:

I've just corrected it. I haven't got my reading glasses on. Still, when it comes to being a 'goon' where does that leave you ?

The SPL is in a state precisely because of the Old Firm clubs.

They can get bent as far as I'm concerned, why should English teams assist Rangers and Celtic in becoming richer still??

And why should two English clubs get relegated because Rangers and Celtic feel like playing in the Premiership? Or the Championship for that matter.

Contrary to the drivel spouted by Alex McLeish, most Premiership fans don't want them in England, only the club chairmen with pound signs in their eyes from large numbers of away fans.

All the Old Firm are interested in is making more money, perhaps they should concentrate their efforts on making the SPL more competitive and raising the quality level rather than crying because the English boys next door won't let them play with their ball.

ryan giggs always springs to mind. In the early mid 90's when we desperatly needed a decent left midfield player! and resorted to players like jason wilcox :lolol:

Wembley of course. We'd just have their best players and they'd have to fit in around England but we'd call it the British team. Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland would just be so f***ing pleased to be able to watch a decent team, even if they had to travel to watch it

But surely it would have to be played at the various stadiums if it was British.

It is not going to happen and if you put it to a poll I suspect most people would be against it.

Also why would the Scots want it, as they are proud of their heritage and none of their players would play. It really would be the current England team, with maybe Giggs.

You're right it probably wouldn't work which is a shame but all 4 nations are too nationalistic about football. It works with Lions rugby tours (normally :) ) and with the Olympics. Shame really as the other 3 always have been and probably always will be fairly shyte on the world football stage.

There is nothing wrong with being a bit patrotic towards England or Scotland. At the end of the day the Scots and Welsh have being doing for years and only recently have the FA woken up to this and branded the national team under the St Georges cross, where as 15 years ago everyone had a union jack. Supporting England is one of the few things that the English have to differentiate us from Britain.

Also this England side is a bit special and if it does hit its potential (had better or I have to pay a Sweaty £100) I want it to be an English success and not a British one.

Danny Blanchflower - one of the British greats.

Precisely. I really can't see any of the Prem strugglers voting for this ...and they'd a two-thirds majority for it to happen.

There's no way it will ever happen.
