The old photo is astounding. I can't imagine it ever looking like that.
The old picture of all the trees just being planted.
I also like the fact that they have put all of the telegraph poles in place so that they had somewhere to hang the super fast broadband cables. How very far thinking they were. The old picture of all the trees just being planted.
Mind you, looks like they've got quite some mole problem there.
I've always wondered about those poles with multi branches on them. Did every house with a phone (not everyone had phones) have it's own line back to the exchange?I also like the fact that they have put all of the telegraph poles in place so that they had somewhere to hang the super fast broadband cables. I think they did, but maybe wrong. I remember when we rented our first flat in 1980 we had a party line where it was shared with another home. Biggest problem was we shared with some old dear who always seemed to be on the phone whenever we needed to make a call.I've always wondered about those poles with multi branches on them. Scored my first Sunday league goal on that sloping pitch. The first of 111. I was more of a provider than a scorer as it took 22 years to get them
Would be great to get to see the trams working again.
Worked there for a bit as a student (the new one, I'm not *that* old). Absolute shit hole behind the scenesThe old Bedford Hotel which stood from Victorian times until the 60s . This looks like a wedding party.

It’s modern somewhat angular replacement. Here shown as a Holiday Inn but has it been renamed again?

My Nan worked in the old one as a waitress. I used to work in the nearby Kings Hotel in the 60s - now that really was a shit hole behind the scenes.Worked there for a bit as a student (the new one, I'm not *that* old). Absolute shit hole behind the scenes
