I also like the fact that they have put all of the telegraph poles in place so that they had somewhere to hang the super fast broadband cables. How very far thinking they were.

I've always wondered about those poles with multi branches on them. Did every house with a phone (not everyone had phones) have it's own line back to the exchange?

I think they did, but maybe wrong. I remember when we rented our first flat in 1980 we had a party line where it was shared with another home. Biggest problem was we shared with some old dear who always seemed to be on the phone whenever we needed to make a call.

I took these pictures in Brighton in about 1988, when a student at Northbrook College. I titled it decaying Brighton at the time.
The first couple were old houses being demolished somewhere out the back of Preston Street. Then the West Pier and finally a building near the top of Queens Road.

My Nan worked in the old one as a waitress. I used to work in the nearby Kings Hotel in the 60s - now that really was a shit hole behind the scenes.
