Board game called Wildlife was a favourite of mine as a kid.

Love that boardgames are having something of a revival. Some classics mentioned here (colditz, formula 1, axis&allies, kingmaker, etc ) all bring back fond memories. However the new generation of games are equally likely to be bringing fond memories in 30/40 years time. 7 Wonders, Clank!, Carcassonne, Red Dragon Inn, etc boardgamearena, tabletopia or tabletop simulator are all excellent online options to try-before-you-buy a huge (staggeringly huge) number of new games.

Topical as me and the missus are going to a party next weekend where we need to take a game, Any advice for a decent one - not a standard one everyone plays.

Loved Haunted house as a kid.
Never owned it though, had some posh friends who had every game under the sun.

Escape from Colditz was another cracking game.

Scoop was a tremendous game.

A couple of Christmas's ago my wife bought me Kick Off, which I played endlessly when I was a kid. I played against myself as my older brothers bullied me by beating me and I didn't like that. It's missing one card, but I still enjoy the game with my young lad. Unlike my brothers I usually let him draw.

Approved by the World Wildlife Fund as it was then known. It had wonderful photo's which is why I could never get rid of it. It fitted well with my love of Gerald Durrell books, love of nature and ambitions to grow up and be a vet or a naturist. Both unfulfilled, even after telling my parents and they pointed out I meant naturalist!

There's always hidden gems of knowledge to find out about.
Allsorts of oddities roaming the vicinity that can tell you about local history and some.
Take Ruislip for starters, we have a local down and out, who is always dressed in black and has impressive dreadlocks, locally known as the Ruislip rapper.

Despite the cold weather this is a record year for asparagus. I have cut 47 already and have been giving them away to the neighbours.

I too have managed to bring a few childhood memories with me:

These have all so far eluded Mrs Earle's attempts to 'tidy up' the garage.

Diplomacy disappeared somewhere along the way. I just never understood how to play it!

For me Escape from Colditz was the king of board games. Loved it whilst I must admit to being bored by Cluedo.
