Hilarious thing is despite us all thinking the refs are corrupt he actually gave a pen for a handball he NEVER SAW. (Clearly because he knew theirs wasn’t a pen)

Absolutely useless

Because he gave the penalty, so play stopped at the moment of the alleged incident. Once it was determined it was not a handball, he had to restart from where the offence was wrongly given.
Why can't we contest a drop ball.

with a baseball bat 😈

Seriously, why has that stopped? If anything the ref should have chucked the ball in the air and shouted 'HANDBAGS'

As mentioned above, I was particularly incensed with Pawson stopping play for an injured Chelsea player (not injured).
He grabbed the ball and prevented the game from progressing until Chelsea were fully back in position.
The injured player wasn't forced off the pitch for 30 seconds either.

Buananotte was forced off the pitch in the first half for a similar situation.

Typical double standards from PGMOL
The Chelsea guy got a yellow for fouling Buananotte. I thought the rules said, if that happens the injured player doesn’t need to go to the sidelines… let alone wait an age to get back on

Yes, worked out subsequently that was what happened. But his signalling was so vague very few knew what was happening at the time: both on the pitch and in the stands. He just shuffled around after the ball went out. No signal for a pen. That's why everyone was so confused, utterly horrendous performance from him.

Can't believe he gave it in the first place either. Also couldn't work out why we got bookings for fouls as they broke through and they didn't when they did it.

Utterly hopeless ref. Very far out of his depth.
He definitely pointed towards the penalty spot but it wasn't assertive, as to say he what he had given. It was more of a limp point with his hand close to his body

This is the rule, and we noticed it too. Pretty shocking he forgot that.

Probably been answered elsewhere, but why didn't we get a corner after the penalty award had been reversed?

But why? The video ref should have just said you've clearly made a mistake you need to reverse your decision.

It was VAR being shit again!

That's the rules, the ref is the one that gives the finals call on everything except most offsides.

VAR being shit would be him not going to see it.

The funny thing is he absolutely did give a contested drop ball at a really random point in the game, seemingly because he decided that the possession was contested at the moment he decided to stop play. But then reverted back to the new rules later on.

Another classic Pawson shambles.

As has been said elsewhere. All on here saying the right decision was a non contested drop ball are wrong. They would have been right had he blown for a pen before the ball went out for a corner. But he didnt. He blew after the ball had gone out so he hadnt stopped play and therefore the game should have restarted with a corner.

Bluntly he like hooper in the city game, just didnt actually know what was happening around him when he gave a decision.

It's a vicious cycle now where officials are under pressure for making wrong decisions, and making more wrong decisions because they're under pressure (and a bit incompetent). It's an all-round farce and Howard Webb is responsible: he has hung his colleagues out to dry. Bald prick.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Biggest mystery for me was how the ref didn’t give Caicedo a second yellow - he had two opportunities - someone might think he bottled the decision as it would have pit them down to 9 with still 30 mins or so left!
We have now discovered that Caicedo didn't get one yellow. It was Badiashile who was booked.
