Maybe lady luck will even up this season the foul hand she delat us last year. That means we can expect another half dozen highly dubious penalties in our favour and a number of ridiculous comedy goals, also in our favour. Cant wait.

Rarely a truer word spoken in jest!

Sounded like they all played well. But Knight and Henderson deserve special praise for having such a great start to their Albion careers.

A great result to start the season with, with a good game against a depleted team to ease back into the new season. Bring on QPR!

Leon Knight Knight Knight. He was a star He ran for everything.

It's a pity that Henderson argued to take the penalty as Knight would have had a hat trick :clap2:

The first half we needed someone on the right wing. It was better with Hart on. Henderson was ok but hadn't played much with the team and it showed. It will probably get better.

Jones ran well, Chris McPhee made a good effort when he came on. Mayo was great as always.

The team were stringing passes together and after a while were making space for themselves.

Roberts looked solid and only conceded a goal due to poor defending.
Danny had an excellent game, Watto had a good game which was good to see.

Loads of Brighton fans, good support and a great day (very hot)

Fantastic start to the season:clap:

Can't believe because of holiday I've got to wait until 6th September before I can see a game.

Good start to the season but we shouldn't get carried away.

It was a reasonable display, but the opposition were poor and I the tempo was slow beacuse of the heat which restricted the pass and move game that we have become used to. We played more long ball than usual and I felt that the midfield didn't perform to the best of their ability.

The lads up front did well though and we will score goals if they receive the service.

Here's hoping the season is a good one.

Was on Birling Gap beach in a dingy for the first half. Dingy was for my 2.5 year old daughter but we both squeezed in!!!
Listened to 2nd half on Southern FM...couldn't get live commentary.
Fantastic start!!!

great start!!!
The penalty was unlucky from a latics viewpoint rather than unjust. It struck his arm but he couldn't have got out of the way.
Roberts was lucky not to be sent off but made a good save and was dominant.
Knight never stopped running....good news.
Defence a bit dodgy but hard to judge because of the weather which had the game being played at a false pace.
Overall Latics unlucky but we took our chances well.
Promising but let's wait a few games yet:wave:

Of course it was bloody unjust! It was hardly deliberate handball was it? You also neglect to mention that the ball hit his hand from a ludicrously awarded corner.

You also don't mention that not only was Roberts not sent off, he wasn't booked or even spoken to by the 'referee'!

So you do admit the ball hit his hand/arm? Deliberate or not it is still handball therefore a penalty.

Is this part of a sponsored bullshit scheme Yorkie or is it just a hobby of yours?

The rule states that a player has to deliberately try and handle the ball for it to be an offence. He didn't do that. If we play the Yorkie rules, then players would just go around trying to smack the ball at the opposition's arms within the vicinity of the area.

I didn't get a good enough view to tell you whether it hit his arm or not. As far as I am concerned, there was no attempt to handle, therefore it wasn't handball.

Even if Danny Boshell had handled deliberately would have been a f***ing disgrace. The goal came from a ludicrously awarded corner. Even if you'd scored from open play from that corner we'd have still gone mental.

I'm not going to keep on arguing about this. It was never, ever, ever, ever, in a million f***ing years a penalty and it changed the game. End of story.

We were by far the better team and deserved to win.The penalty was very iffy to say the least.Roberts should have been booked.
But we did enough to win and did not go overboard.Feel we could have upped the tempo at anytime. When did Oldham really threaten ? Their little No38 Roca looked quite good when running at our defence but nothing else.Good day out, friendly fans and right result.Nice pub The Old Grey Mare.
3-1,3 points what more could we ask,I think I may have said that last season ? Shit.

When did Brighton really threaten? You mustered two chances (perhaps 3) in the entire game. Scott Vernon missed a one on one which produced a cracking save from Ben Roberts. Vernon also missed a header from right under the bar and also should have scored when sliding in at the far post.

To say that you were by far the better team is an exaggeration. I'd say that you just about deserved to win and if it wasn't for the dickhead(s) in black, it would have been far, far closer.

Your two legitmate goals came after our only defender with any experience whatsoever (the other two were making their league debuts) was stretchered, leaving us with a midfielder at the back.

Here is a quote from Steve Coppell:

'The result flattered us a bit because we weren't playing too well before the penalty, which probably knocked Oldham down slightly.'

At least someone can admit how much that twat in charge affected the game today.

Just got home and have sat down with a nice cup of tea.

But just to say, great turn out you Super Seagulls. We did ourselves proud and we sounded fantastic. (And there was a good number of bananas on display - nice work!) Knight is a hero in the making - sign him up! Henderson will get better, I'm sure of it. He's a big, strong player and I thought looked like he has a touch or two on him. He's been thrown in this week, so I'm not suprised he didn't gel, but he will do, and if and when he does, let's hope we're able to keep him on loan longer.

All in all, it was a great day and a good start to the season. Not getting carried away just yet though... :)
