San Sebastián marathon cancelled, so that’s a full house of 2020 cancellations for me :-(

Will look at Downland Devil. Holding off from Beachy- definitely on my go do list but would rather do it in a proper year.

Beachy was too 'non-Beachy' and expensive for me, but Moyleman is ON! Counting down the days until 21st March 2021

Getting lots of grief online, I see, but if people don't feel safe/comfortable about it, they don't HAVE to run. I see where they are coming from, but I don't think I'll be able to resist. I'll be interested to see if they try and cap running numbers at the likes of Hove Park and prom. Everyone up to Bevendean! :lolol:

I can't see when I'm going to get to parkrun, even if my local one starts up again, now that my kids' football club is back in the swing of training.

I feel your pain, Mr O. Thankfully, Bobkin Jnr is now old enough to be able to cycle to football (9am on a Saturday!), so I've got the time back.

This feels like me saying "Brighton Marathon won't go ahead" way back when and getting pilloried on here, but the end of October is a long way off right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if either they are unable to recommence then or it just doesn't feel right to do so.

These plans will have been a long time in the making, I'm sure, but the "it's all going well" tide looks like turning right now.

I think it comes down to the feel of the ride. I'm hoping the Peg 37's will start to come alive a bit but it's not looking good. When I compare them to another of my every day shoes the New Balance 1080v10's they really fall short. The 1080v10's are a fantastic shoe. Can't praise New Balance high enough for a poppy, responsive but comfortable "all rounder" shoe. I'm also a big fan of the lower drop Hoka Rincon's, just a lovely smooth ride for an every day shoe, if only they had put a little more rubber protection on the outsole.

From the shoes I've noticed you run in, I've not noticed any with a React midsole, which is what the Peg 37 features - the Peg Turbo 2s are ZoomX - I wonder if it might be that.

Another thought is that Nike put different-pressured Air Zoom units in the men's and ladies shoe for the first time - 20psi v 10psi. When Seth James DeMoor got hit Peg 37s, he was sent a women's shoe initially and if I recall correctly he preferred this to the men's. Like you, he's a lighter runner so maybe the 20psi airbag has too much pressure to give you the pop you want?

In related news, on Saturday I went out for an easy 6-miler and it was really uuurrrggghhh, to the point I kinda gave up after four miles and just jogged the last two miles home. I wasn't looking forward to Sunday's run, fearing more of the same. I put on the Peg Turbos, not because I was looking to run fast - I wasn't - but because I'd not worn them for a couple of weeks or so.

I just bounded along and midway through mile 6 I realised I wasn't too far away from a 10km PB so I pushed on for the last bit. I came in just short - by 5 seconds - so had I attacked the run from the off, I'd probably have recorded a best time. I'm putting it down to the Turbos!

Parkrun do seem to have done their due diligence over this. I guess they are going ahead as people don't generally travel on public transport or over long distances to take part, and there is a limited audience.

Thanks Bozza, yeah it could be the React midsole in the 37's. I don't think I have any other shoes with the React foam, so maybe I should stick with Zoom. Unfortunately I've found them to have zero responsiveness, just dead in terms of the feel, with that classic "slapping" ride on the road. A real shame as I really wanted to like them.

The Turbos on the other hand I think are just a beautiful shoe to cruise in. Both the first iteration and the Turbo 2's. I feel in total control with them and the feedback I get from them is awesome. I'm not sure if they'll keep the Turbo line going though as the upcoming Tempo Next% looks to be the new equivalent.

I think we all have some days where everything feels off and then we're flowing the next day. I normally put my grumpy runs down to not banking enough sleep.

Indeed - and an absolutely beautiful shoe it looks too.

Unfortunately initial reviews (it's already out in the Far East) are not sounding very positive. I'll still buy them though, obvs.

 I'm not sure about them so will be really keen to hear that you think Bozza. Initial impressions are that it's probably a bit too much shoe for my liking. Nike obviously have the money to market them to the hilt so they'll fly off the shelves but to me it looks like they've tried to throw all their "best bits" into a shoe and shouting really loudly about how amazing it is. "Look guys, we've only gone and put the Alphafly air pods in these too! Woohoo! Aren't we amazing!" :lolol:

Having said that, I still think the original Next% is an incredible shoe. They just seem to be taking way too far now.

Then you have brands like New Balance that have quietly upped their game in making really really nice shoes. I'm a new New Balance fan.

Will do. We'll have to be rapid when the ballot – or whatever it is – opens because those places will go FAST. It's the one race I've been looking forward to. Forget all this virtual stuff and Beachy without all the trimmings, stripped back plodding across the Downs and East Sussex's finest trails is where it's at. Hopefully the world might be *slightly* more back to normal by next March. But I see it's limited to 250 (not sure if it's always been like that), so they know what they're doing...

Always around 250. This years sold out within the opening morning. Will be time to use all skills acquired in getting hold of many Ashes tickets over the years.

Had a nice barefoot mile run this morning. Chariots of Fire style. In fact I was completely bare after a swim. Peace and Love man.

Bloody Worthing!
The delayed Worthing 10k is slated to be run on the 4th October. They are capping entries at 600 and still accepting (I think) applications. I'm a bit surprised as I would have thought that this usually over-subscribed event would have easily 'sold out' to this cap level when it was first advertised for a June slot.. Also I wonder if the tightening of COVID measures, not all of which have been spelled out yet, might have a knock-on effect on this - and other - events.

As I only managed a 49.43 on a 10k practice yesterday this alone makes me question the wisdom of signing up. So it's a bit of a 'watch this space' issue. Hope that the planned roll-out of the Parkruns in not impacted.

New Balance 1080v10

First run today with the New Balance 1080v10 (thanks Artie for the recommendation). Obviously they need a bit of breaking in but first impressions are good - quick and very responsive for an "all round" shoe. Not a lot of cushioning so felt fairly firm under foot and I had a little bit of pins and needles under the ball of the foot for the first few miles. Also, an interesting fit as they have nothing retaining the foot around the back of the ankle but have a quite tight feel around the midfoot.

Don't know if it's the shoe or not but managed to push through 4 x 3km at HM pace with comfort.

Oh that could be really good news.

I've checked and they don't allow transfers which means that I'd be running as you and that my time would leave an indelible stain on your record! (Indeed, I could run it deliberately slowly for this very objective.)

Only problem is that my Achilles has flared up and it's not certain that I'll get to the start line. So if you know of anyone else who would be interested they are probably a better bet. But let's be positive...............

In terms of practicalities, I'd either refund you or pay the entry fee directly to a charity of your choice. How should we proceed?

Thanks!

It’s yours for free. You’ll have to collect from a friend’s shop near King Alfred (Our Irish Weakest Link non NSC member) or get someone to pick up for you.
big nuts could help by letting me know when they’ve been posted.
We’ll see how your Achilles goes then revert to private message.

Morning runners

I’m still running but I’m not here to provide an update on my mileage. I’m back with an injury type question.

I was on the treadmill at the gym the other day and in front of me is the standard mirror which had an A4 sign in front of me blocking my view of myself. After about 40mins I noticed a claret splodge on my white vest, as I moved to the right slightly I saw a huge blood stain on the right hand side of my top. Turns out my nipple was bleeding quite a lot. It wasn’t hurting but had been irritating me a few days before.

I’d been using germoline to sooty it after which appeared to work.

Has anyone got any secrets in what I can use ahead or during runs to stop it happening?

I have a feeling that the combination of sweat and the particular vest I was wearing had caused an irritation.
