Any experiences out there with a tight or painful Achilles? I’ve been reading up on it so I’ve been icing, massaging and stretching my calf’s. Is there anything else I can do?

No sooner have I seemingly got over tight glutes another area of my body starts to break down!

Massaging finger and thumb either side and inside Achilles with oil? Knobbly roller/ball under foot? Massaging feet and pulling and crunching toes. All can be done while watching TV. Can’t do any harm. Good luck.

I’ve put running on hold as rheumatoid arthritis sending out warning signals. Glad I can read it. Time to slow down and eat and drink. I blame the mile from 6 weeks ago and my recent 5k effort.

Sorry to hear this. Take it easy and come back stronger.

Thanks. Precautionary break. 10% level of pain in joints is warning to cut back. I'm blessed it didn't permanently immobilise me from 30 onwards. No excuse to not do 10" plods though.

Funnily enough, I leapt out of bed today and had a 'turn'. Cancelled today's run. (I know policemen are getting younger and possibly shorter - but a 10 inch plod really worried me.)

Bloody hell, Gaffer – sorry to hear that. Just take it easy for a while and get over the flare-up. I don't think you're ready for the move from player-manager just yet...

Had a quiet couple of weeks - hot and then windy weather not conducive to running and I think I’d just had enough of solo running - finally got out this morning with a friend from Worthing for 12 miles around Cissbury. Needed that change of scenery perhaps. Feel really tired now and learned a tough run after a Joe Wicks session maybe not such a good idea!
Good news is our running club is taking its first tentative post lockdown steps this weekend (groups of six max and nowhere near the sea front).

Nothing like a 1 mile time trial to test the Achilles.

Anyway I think I’ve gotten through unscathed and more importantly posted a PB of 5:20.6 so if someone can give the table an update that would be great.

You’re added to the waiting list of three changes. Achilles problem my arse! Great time.

5:09 for my entry into the NSC Mile. Also think my watch doesnt like laps as it said I went through a mile in 4:50, whereas the 5:09 was from the mile starting point on the track.

Welcome on board.
Re the watch, England Athletics won't accept watch measured distances on a track for their Covid virtual events. Like you they have to run the track distance. The watches get confused...

Had another crack at the 5k this morning to just sneak under 19 with a 18:57.

The Howard grubb link has this as 71.86%. Is that the correct calculation for the table?

That's quite a squad you've got there Gaffer. I trust your man management skills will be up to keeping a big and high quality squad -with huge egos!- happy?

Pleasing to see my 5k AG is higher than running 5:09 for a mile aged 24. I don’t think I would have got below six minutes at that age.

Time to rescue this thread from page three!
Quick update on my plodding around BN41, my run streak hit three months yesterday, total streak miles of 621, total annual miles is now 1145, I'm going to surpass last years 1201 very soon
With the Sept BM not being canned yet, I'm starting to step up the miles, 12 miles covered on Monday in 1h37, 14 planned for Friday
You never know, I may get to see some of you in person sometime soon
