Downland Challenge, double the fun of 13 The Hard Way, but MAN ALIVE it was windy. Hung back a bit to run with a couple of others so about 5.46 for the 27.3 miles.

Yellow Brick Road was tough - blown in every direction (so to speak).

Great event - gotta love the STE gang!

Good days work. Not every day you get blown in every direction, as you say. Rather today, I’m getting the ferry to Ireland tomorrow

I've made a nice spreadsheet of all my 110 parkruns - and I've discovered that I only twice ran sub-19 parkruns in 2018 and I haven't gone under 19 since 9th June 2018. I'm up to 9 sub-19s and two 19:00 dead. 42 of the 110 are sub-20 and 9 are over 25 minutes, including Peacehaven's debut where I got there about 10 minutes late, an effort at Hove Promenade where I was in woeful condition (touch too much alcohol the day before!). The others were all Hove Park as part of training runs, a couple where I did the parkrun after a session. I do love a good stat!

I’ve had a knee problem that was really a quad problem. Massage, stretching and gentle runs seem to be sorting it out slowly but I aborted completely last Sunday and today managed 8 very slow miles before it started aching. Hopefully on the road to recovery but won’t be troubling Knocky and the scorers any time soon

That's bad news. I managed about 30 years of never having a knee prob but now have to rather 'nurse' a dodgy knee. But 8 miles sounds as if it's on the mend. Good luck with the recovery.

Glorious 18m or so run this morning....Burgess Hill, Hassocks, up to the Windmills, Beacon, Falmer, Housedean (retracing your TGW/DC steps from yesterday), Black Cap and down into Lewes just in time for kick off. Happy days and a 50m week logged for the first time in AGES.

Good stuff. Peacehaven was my proudest moment as for a whole week I was at the top the all-time Age Grading column there. it happened to coincide with it's first week, so my glory was but fleeting. I think it helped to get there a bit before the start. and preferably reasonably sober. These are the sacred secrets of competitive success, handed down the generations……….I've never yet gone over the 25 mins barrier but am working on it.

Ran 17.5 miles at Rye Harbour in the Twilight Chase yesterday. Heading west along the coast into the wind was some of the hardest miles I’ve ever run. The constant wind was sapping and the gusts stopped you in your tracks. Only around 10 runners completed 6 x 4.4mile laps to go marathon distance but I bailed at lap 4 despite all the encouraging words from fellow runners I had nothing left. Great day though with the extreme conditions pulling everyone together with vegetable soup as a welcome reward for all finishers.

out running
Slow parkrun in very windy woods near Watford today - Aldenham country park. Nice course, trail and lakeside.
Blown out the hangover - now off to the match

That's one of my local parkruns :) Really nice trail course. Pretty challenging in the winter. It doesn't get a huge amount of participants unfortunately. I think having to pay to park inside the country park car park puts people off. It's about a 4 mile run away for me.

I am going to be making my debut at the Isle of Wight parkrun on saturday, something to look forward to before Kettering the following week. Until then, I've got a lot of miles to pile into this week, starting with a 7 mile recovery run at 8 minutes per mile today. I managed an average of 7:59, but the splits are quite uneven. It won't be on Strava until later this evening. Tomorrow's session is still be decided, it'll be pacework of some kind but not fully decided just yet. Sunday brings the Isle of Wight Half Marathon, hills, hills and more hills.

Good luck for IOW. I ran the full there a few years ago and loved it. But there was a big hill at 23 and I know the island isn't exactly flat, which will be a bit of a challenge.

The other thing I remember about that race is the low number of entrants. Only a few hundred, I think. Mind you, there were a mere 32 in for DC on Saturday, which makes STE even bigger legends for putting the thing on!

I enjoy the Half for many reasons - the hills are one of them, I set my Half PB there in 2015 and it took me until Worthing 2018 to beat it! I don't expect to run this one particularly quick, but it's a lovely race (except for the mile stretch on an A road!). Another of the reasons is that it kicks off at 11am ( :lolol: ) and a final reason is that a beautiful girl I follow on Instagram is regularly there with her lame boyfriend (he raced me in 2015 and has never been brave enough to do it again!).

Yes, we were going to do Cassiobury Parkrun in Watford originally, but decided to make a weekend of it in the campervan, and booked the campsite in Aldenham Country park, only to discover on getting there on Friday, that there was a parkrun starting 100m from where we'd parked up in the van. It would have been churlish not to do that one!
On the Sunday, we did go to Cassiobury, and did a long run from there running north up the towpath of the Grand Union canal - lovely weekend, both for running and football....

Along with the Parkrun alphabets, counties and internationals, we now have the campervan Parkruns . Good work.
My best was Hastings parked up on seafront overnight on the start line. A great farm set me up for Eastbourne. Folkestone has a good C&C site.

The Albion away collection is the best. One you are probably winning?

In the last couple of seasons I've managed to combine an away trip for a Saturday or Friday evening match with a local Parkrun on 10 occasions so far (with or without the van). The van is a relatively recent innovation, but definitely opens up new possibilities for the awayday Parkruns.

I made a better fist of the 5 x 1 mile session today; 6:41, 6:31, 6:28, 6:42, 6:36. I wanted them to be closer to 6:30 but given where I was last tuesday, this is a massive improvement. Still nothing compared to the parkrun of saturday just gone, but a better session.

Morning Glory

This is a true-life story

Up early and had a hard one this morning.

Set off into a firm but steady pace, it felt good, let me tell you, but could I sustain this pace without blowing out. The record looked insight over the halfway mark, then 3 cars and 2 lorries all passed me throwing clouds of dirt and Carbon dioxide all around my inhaling orifices, being a touch asthmatic this could easily set me off early and ruining my endpoint.
Fortunately, it didn't I stuck with the task in hand and kept the pace good of course until the last bit, where it was speed time.

Oh oh oh yes baby, I got a PB.:banana::rave:

6th place today on a windswept tough sandy beach at Inch Beach Co Kerry. Must be a contender for most beautiful Parkrun.

Off for an early Guinness to celebrate my probable AG first place.
