I did my first run since Thursday 29th March. I think 10 days of no running is the longest I have done for a few years now, but I had to give my back recovery time. Yesterday I set off with a bit of intrepidation, I took the first couple of miles very slowly and gradually increased my pace. Its the first time I have done a long run fitness test!! I maged 7.2 miles at an average of 11.12, my last mile being at 10.31. Being slightly sensible I really didnt want to push the pace much higher at this stage. I felt the odd twinge but at the end my back was no worse that when I started, so I have declared myself fit to run. Phew. I have now raised £1,783 so have 1,783 reasons to make the start line. I will do a very small slow runs on Tuesday and Thursday and then give it all on the day. The week between Brighton and London I may do a LSR to keep the legs going. Yesterday I started carb loading by having a massive Sunday roast at the Swan in Lewes. It was yummy! Good luck and stay calm everyone, its only 26.2 miles. Added for [MENTION=25508]soistes[/MENTION] . I still think AG percentage has to be for the current year as it puts us all on a level playing field. Having historical bests would create a time spectrum that would require Steven Hawking to come back and decipher. What is your all time best percentage? Should be able to beat it after the marathon?

So St James' Street and North Street have been relegated from the course this year! I don't see where they've extended the course to compensate for the loss of distance running along New Road and then back along the Old Steine. That's a good quater of a mile at least, but there's no obvious addition. Short course?

Missed it last year but that map looks like you run up the hill first left from the A259 roundabout on the way back from Ovingdean for an extra short bit of hill?

What sports drink was available at water stations last year? Was it badly mixed powder?

On NSC for over two decades...
Do what you gotta do but all conventional wisdom would say that is a way too intensive week on lead up to Marathon, you will see no aerobic benefit from these workouts (on Marathon day) and from this point forward it's about keeping the legs moving.

My week for comparison looks like 5 easy Tuesday, 4 easy Wednesday, 3 easy Thursday, 2 miles (jog to pick race number up) on Saturday. A few 100m at marathon pace mixed in on each day to remind me what it feels like.

This week is all about keeping hydrated and eating healthy (bought enough fruit, nuts, seeds and veg to sink a ship today). Also regularly checking strava to remind myself that I can do the time/distance if it all comes together.

I might well look lazy in comparison to you and [MENTION=13055]Ninja Elephant[/MENTION] then. 30 minutes easy today, and 20 minutes easy (with pickups) on Wednesday... and that is it other than stretching and hydrating.

Wellington Road and an extra stretch of Leeds Road instead of looping straight around St. Peter’s Church has been added I think.

Sounds sensible and similar to my usual final week. Shin splints mean I’m not sure I’ll run again before Sunday but shouldn’t do me any harm if not. Hour and a half yoga tomorrow and either easy run or light gym work on Thursday. No booze, lots of water and early nights.

The Wellington Road section was there last year, which is not very pleasant so it's a shame to see it's still there this year! The Ovingdean section looks the same too, you always run out to the roundabout and then right into the backside of that road before the deadturn and back along the road again. It doesn't look like we're going any further into Ovingdean than last year.

My first marathon after a dozen halfs - it all seems a bit real now after months of training! Any tips for pre-race? I was thinking of finding a coffee shop 20 or so minute from the start, where I can sit down, have a drink and use the toilets! Maybe Seven Dials? Booked in the Metropole on the seafront as didn't realise the start was at Preston Park.

Not ideal, but I'm not sure it makes *that* much of a difference. It's just replacing one hill for another one, isn't it? :shrug: Plus, 'what goes up' and all that... :lol:

Cheers. Yes, that makes sense. My all-time AG best is 74.56%, but as you say, with luck I should be able to sneak it over 75% after the marathon, assuming I can still even walk.

Sure you will on the back of all the endurance training. I should be capable of just beating my historical peak of 76% AG this year. Achieved in 1972, 1995 (17:45) 2009 (19:33) and 2016 (20:19). A downhill progression to death :lolol: but age related consistency.
This year hill training seems to have given me more oomph and I can't wait to get Sunday's jog out the way and sensibly start building up pace.

Yes, well I only started running at age 59, three years ago, and my pre-death window is considerably shorter than yours :cry:, so I need to crack on with getting that AG up a bit
