The Barkley is truly brutal.
Unfortunately I'm not running BM this year. Loved it last year. I'm keen to get a marathon in this Autumn but the main goal is to be fit and ready to go sub 3 at London 2019. I'm on a 12+ month training cycle :)

12 month training plan? Hmm you may have been watching too many Barkley you tube videos....

I am back from the Isle of Man, 4 races in 3 days! And ultimately, 4 frustrations in 3 days. The Port Erin 10k on the friday was, comfortably, the worst organised start of a race I've ever known. By an enormous distance. Everyone was milling about and then got a 2 minute warning to walk back to the start line and everyone gathered in the same place at the front. They had to ask everyone to move backwards a few times and even then we were all clustered. There were a few fallers and apparently one person suffered a bad ankle injury which ruled her out of the whole event. They really need to change the start of that race and I'm sure they will. It's very strange to me that it was so badly organised.

Peel Hill is one hell of a race, that one took me totally by surprise. I've not found anything on the Downs like it, the severity of the climb and the surface is really tough. Next year I'll be better prepared. The Douglas 5k was just a Promenade out and back, so it was comfortable but won in a superb 15 minutes odd. The same Isle of Man runner won all 3 events - incredible effort on his behalf! Of the 125 people who completed all 3 races, my placing was 93rd. I'm disappointed with my performance in all of the races, and it really has added nothing at all to my preparations for BM. At least I didn't see us lose to Leicester!

Nobles Park parkrun is a tough course, various stretches on tarmac, grass and gravel. Its's a course I will do again, without the intention of running a crazy hill race afterwards!

That looks a tough Festival. Just checked them out on your Strava. Peel Hill would be great if nearer to home.
Peel Hill would appeal to the dinosaurs (not runners) on NSC as the Manx Race team seperate the mens and Ladies races and give the Ladies a mile less to run.:lolol:

Another on the sub-3 train! I’m planning to run one in September. I still have some way to go until I’m up to speed though.

No, I’m at an absolute crossroads. Four mile fitness test this morning. No pain for first slow two miles. Cranked it up to 8.45 m/m and the back of my right leg was tight by the end of the mile and still tight now. Jog / walked the last mile home. Phoned Paul’s number immediately to be told the same as you.

I am 50/50 for BM10k. I was going to test my pace at parkrun this weekend but doubt I’ll run again before the big day. Calling an osteopath friend tomorrow if it’s the same.

I liked that the festival split the races between male and female for the Peel Hill race and the Douglas 5k - the women there were serious racers and they deserved their own separate race. I'm not happy about them having a shorter distance to run for the Peel Hill race though! That back section which they missed out was just as unpleasant as the parts they did run!

I walked to Anfield and Goodison Park, that took about 45 minutes. I sat and fed some ducks for a while as well, before walking back into town and perusing around the Albert Dock as suggested. I need to go back and have a proper visit, there's so much to do around there. Maybe not that early in the morning again though!

I've had a tough few days mentally so I'm tempted to go for a flatout pace run tomorrow. My thinking is to jog over to Preston Park for their run, then back to Hove Park to run the course at marathon pace. It would give me a mileage of about 10 miles with a variety of paces and I'll do a gentle long run tomorrow and then settle myself down ready for the big day. This time next it'll be full maranoia!

I won that easily enough. Everyone else was disqualified for running 7" something miles and not being in sight when the race started.

I finally achieved a sub-20 yesterday. It’s been my running dream ever since I started parkrun 18 months ago and was my number one aim for 2018 so I’m delighted to do it. I clocked a 19:37 at Worthing. To be honest, I didn’t do anything different to normal. After about six weeks of poor performances due to marathon training and the fainting incident that definitely knocked me back for a few weeks, I’ve run the last couple of parkruns quite well and probably only been over 20 due to having tired legs. This week, after a pre-marathon rest, it just seemed much easier to hold the required pace.

Get me up that table!
That's fantastic - nice one Badger. I managed a sub-23 for the first time in ages [emoji23] I didn't see the memo from the gaffer about running at 8s...

Managed 18 miles in just over an hour this morning - but on the bike, obvs!

Thanks, nice work yourself.

Let me know next time you guys do the sprint finish thing at Hove Park. I’m not very good at sprinting so would definitely join you for some practice. Based on what I saw of [MENTION=15605]knocky1[/MENTION] at Bevendean a few months ago I wouldn’t have much/any chance of winning over 800m but it’s the sort of thing I need to get better at.

You're at least 10% quicker than last October. I've waved you goodbye.
