See you all on Sunday. Running my first ever actual event after three years solitary plodding up and down the Basingstoke Canal. Will be donning the magnificent rhino costume on behalf of Save the Rhino International at the Brighton Half Marathon. I always told myself I would never run a race, as I need to blot out the world and enter a trance like state to get by but then there is nowhere else I would rather run.

Good luck. Those rhino costumes always look like buggers to try to run in !

Good running. Are you in for the half next week?

Thanks very much - I'm certainly feeling it today. I'm not in next weeks race, I'm entered in the Surrey Half on 8th March, so still have one more long run (100 minutes easy) to go before that.

I just plugged in my numbers from yesterday into the spreadsheet, and worked out that my 20 minutes "race pace" at the end of session was actually slightly slower than the long easy paced section leading up to it! That'll teach me to forget my jelly beans!

I'm all set, I've had a good preparation which included my last run last night of 11.1 miles.

I just need to come through football unscathed Thursday and a gentle loosner (a lap of hove lagoon) early Saturday evening.

Concerned by the winds, they are never helpful for running quick times.

Concerned by the winds, they are never helpful for running quick times.

Find someone running your pace, or a little faster and tuck in behind them. Let them do the work :wink:

I've not done anything since parkrun on Saturday - too busy working (not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing - I've never really been one for tapering). Hoping to get out tomorrow morning for an easy run, but we'll see...

Where's the best place to park? Just somewhere along Goldstone Crescent?

Also, the website says the course is run on a good surface - does this mean road shoes are better than trail shoes?

It's run on the path that goes round the park. I'm not sure if there is any works going on near the mini railway but that just involved a 1 minute detour across the grass last time.

Hi there y'all, will be doing my 2nd Brighton Half on Sunday. Anyone else in the slow pens? I managed 2.20 last year but will be glad just to finish this time round!

Cannot do Parkrun till after Brighton marathon. Sticking tightly to schedule for 3:45 to sub 3:40 finish.speed workout finished 2 weeks ago.Strength runs Tuesday at 8" pace (6x1mile with recovery), Tempo run Thursday 8'23" pace or marathon pace (build up from 8-12miles over next 6 weeks) Friday Saturday easy run and Sunday long run at 9'05"pace.

The Easy run is for recovery and mileage at 9'45" (Saturday) to 10'30" pace (Monday and Friday) If I go near a Parkrun my legs don't listen to my brain and have to race everyone around them, even though they lose.

So look forward to a meet in late Spring.

Goldstone Cresent or one of the roads off it - I normally go for the Droveway, or the one before it on the right (with the park on your left). Course is pretty much all tarmac - there was a slight detour near the train two weeks ago, but it was back to normal last week. Road shoes, defo. To be honest, the muddiest part is typically afterwards where you get scanned. Talking of which - don't forget your barcode :lol:

It will be a good thing. Enforced tapering!

Yeah, there is that, but I've never really done tapering for a half, and having run so regularly, it's all a bit strange. Might try and get out for a gentle run today or tomorrow morning, just in case I've forgotten how to run :jester:

I shall be slowly trotting around Hove park for the 200th time tomorrow and then attempting my first Brighton Half on Sunday. Hopefully it will stay dry and not too breezy!

All makes sense - although interesting I am being coached for SDW50 & 100 this year (have Brighton marathon in as a day out/recovery run the week after the 50, remains to be seen whether I'll be there) and have regular parkruns in the schedule and lots of interval stuff. Next week I'll probably be doing parkrun the day before the Stinger marathon - coach says blasting 3 miles has no lasting impact at all.
