Shoreham-by-Sea
Missed going to game yesterday as I was pre-occupied on the 62km Downslink Ultra (38 miles in old money) which runs from St Martha's Hill on the North Downs all the way down to Shoreham by Sea, mainly following the old railway line.

Living in Shoreham it's always been one I've wanted to do. Wasn't in great shape leading up to the race due to various niggles, but toughed it out to come home in 7hrs 30 mins. Great event and well stocked aid stations. Highly recommended to anyone looking to step up to Ultra distance.

Looking forward to some shorter, quicker stuff between now and year end!

Another bit of thread-rescuing after my return to Hove Park for my first parkrun of the year. Quite pleased with 23:33, especially given since I started back down the field behind the 28-min pacer.

Other highlights included seeing the legends that are @BenElton'sBrother @knocky1 @Simgull @Mr Banana - and some bloke called Tony Bloom!

Hopefully a few more before the end of the year.

Changes for @BenElton'sBrother Berlin Marathon
@soistes AG upgrade
@Greg Bobkin for Hove Park and thrashing Tony Bloom
@TudorApples for a Triathlon 5k that I've only just allowed onto the table as the Standard Tri at Brighton was well short of 10K. and maybe the 5k was short.
Was very impressed that Tony Bloom not only does a few Parkruns but has also embraced the community spirit by having a Barcode and isn't a funnel dodger.

Worthing
Darkness is quickly getting more noticeable in the evenings now and my old decathlon headtorch has just packed up, does anyone have a recommendation for a decent rechargeable headtorch for running? Cheers

Back to Hove Prom this morning, where my pace was incentivised by a certain Inigo Calderon. Unfortunately I couldn’t catch him and came in 21 seconds behind him, but it was nevertheless a SB for me at 22.02 and 79.12% AG 🙂
Good running. Edging the 80% for superstars. I'll update next week after my SB at the Prom Saturday. 🤞
My Merthyr Tydfil SB 22:31 from early summer has been a struggle to better. sub 22:30 planned with an eye on sub 22:02. I need to move up that table. Will you be there?

Any of you chaps run the NYC marathon at the weekend?

My wife ran it and I was supporting at just before mile 7 in Brooklyn wearing my pink Brighton training top.

Absolutely made my day when I heard a couple of runners shouting ‘seagulls’ as they ran past.

Was an amazing trip to NYC and I loved every minute of supporting the runners at various points of the course.

My wife finished in a time of 4:18 and raised over £5K for charity.

@soistes close to 80% Parkrun moves him up the League.
I nearly ran the third 22:02 in a week by a NSCer after @soistes and @Simgull but Parkrun was favourable to my watch 22:02 by giving me 22:01. I've moved up the table with a 30 second better SB plus entering the 65 old gits AG last week. Next week I'll be aiming to leapfrog @big nuts. It was nice to run in the vaporfly on the flat after a few months of muddy, undulating woodland Parkruns.

Back to Hove Park this morning and ran faster (23:19) than I did a couple of weeks ago when it felt like I was giving it some!

Opposite for me. Really went for it at Seaford also givin' it some! but only took 4 seconds off last weeks more controlled SB.
Positives met @penny's harmonica , finished in front of @penny's harmonica for the first time in 5 years, got an SB and sub 22.
EDIT****** I've been given 22:04 officially. Slower than last week and 6 seconds slower than my watch. Work to do.
3 weeks hard training now before giving Parkrun another all out effort in December.

Just upgraded from a cheap Silva one to the Petzl imo core which is much more comfortable, powerful and is rechargeable but with the option of using regular batteries

I've not been on this thread for a while.......

For about ten months now, I've had an (initially intermittent) issue with my running. I do most of my running at a slow pace, usually around 130/135 bpm.

My HR in these runs would sometimes start going to, and staying at, 170/180/190 bpm. Initially this would happen on my runs for a week or two, and then my runs would go back to normal 130 bpm runs.

The high HR runs started to continue for a few weeks so I rested, on return I would come back at normal rates.

Went to Doc's (she even done the google calculation of Max HR, and decided that I shouldn't be allowing my HR to go above 220-63 = 157), booked and had an ECG and bloods. Nothing showing. Advised it was ok to continue running.

High HR then became more persistent, hitting 200 on a slow parkrun. Went back to Doc (November) and got referred for a 24 hour monitor. Finally had the monitor fitted for 24 hours on Feb 6.

Results came back, appointment yesterday, ECG first then appointment.
24 hour monitor and ECG showing a Atrial Fibrulation and evidencing a 200bpm run during the 24 hour.

As of tonight when I collect my prescription am on a blood thinner to lower the risk of clotting from the AF, and a beta blocker to mange the High HR when excercising.

Would appreciate any advice from those of you manging this situation with running.

I have an op next month for a Catheter Ablation. The below explains better than I can, what they'll be doing for me.

During the procedure, a doctor makes a small cut in the groin and inserts thin tubes called catheters into the femoral vein
Guides the catheters through the blood vessels to the heart using X-rays
Records the heart's electrical activity to pinpoint the source of the arrhythmia
Destroys the affected tissue using heat, cold, or electrical impulses

Hopefully I can get back to some normality with my running next year.
