Managed 1:42:51 in the Brighton Half yesterday which was pleasing after my watch froze at 7 miles meaning I ran to feel for the last 6 miles. Interesting wind to run into for the final 5k but that's the nature of the beast.

Signage could have been better, I think I only say two mile markers. Also way to many non runners at the start just generally getting in the way.

Worthing next to aim for 1:40

The first (and only) mile marker I saw was at 9 miles which was brilliant. Made the run feel quicker and easier.

Maybe it's a thing, not knowing exactly how far in you are. I'm wondering if I finished the race off faster because I wasn't running to my watch, instead just hanging in there on the edge of what I thought was reasonable pace wise.

I'm enjoying my attempt to do the Moyleman 2 weeks Sunday with only 97 miles run in 2024.
Last 5 weeks my Long Run has increased weekly from 3 miles ,6 miles,10 miles,16 miles to 18 miles. Walking uphills has enabled this foolish leap in distance. My legs feel great but my metabolism is on overload and I'm constantly eating and ensuring I'm fully recovered before setting off again. Entering a taper now with 16 miles and then 14 miles.
It's going to be a long, long slog but why not? Just hope the rain stops soon and the quagmire on the Downs dries out.
Looking forward to proper running once I've recovered from that.

Bit of a long shot but does anybody have a link to a runner tracker for today's (sunday 3 March) Tokyo Marathon? My son is running in it. Doesn't seem to be anything on the official Tokyo Marathon site, and Google is no help. Ta

After 8 long years, I finally got my sixth star in Tokyo on Sunday to finish up the majors.

I'm not part of any running club, so this thread has been a fantastic source of info from when I started running in 2016.

I've been struggling with achilles tenonitis since London last year, and this was the first marathon I didn't follow al training plan so pleased to close it out with a pb. I picked up a pair of Alpha Fly 3 Protos in Japan, which might have helped a 13-second negative split!

Very much looking forward to taking a break from marathons now.

A cancelled football match for Bobkin Jnr meant I upped my planned 16 miles to 18.6 in the end on Sunday, which has given me a bit more confidence I can cover the distance before crawling (as ever) up Mount Caburn a week on Sunday.

@BiffyBoy100 – fantastic achievement, massive congrats to you. I've never run a marathon abroad (unless you count Wales – and as part of an Ironman!), but it's something I'm definitely keen to do. One day...

I'm happy to know that even if I'm an hour behind you, you'll still be anxiously glancing behind whilst climbing Mt Caburn with both hands full of cakes from the generous Glynde villagers. 😂

Am looking for a new daily ‘do-it-all’ running shoe to complement my race day metaspeeds and I’m drawn to the ASICS Superblast. Yes, they’re expensive but they are so well reviewed and possibly the most ‘all-round’ running shoe I’ve seen yet.

Any of you good folks here owned a pair?

I’ve bought a pair of Superblast for my Brighton marathon block and have put about 250km on them.

Absolutely superb shoe, perfect for easy and goal pace work ( I still switch up to the trusty Endorphin Speed for faster sessions). Would work perfectly as a daily trainer.

Only slight negative is the outsole is a little bit sketchy in the wet, but not terrible.

Would deffo recommend. Rumour is the 2nd version of shoe will be with us this summer.

I've run in a fair few pairs of Asics and they are pretty good – for me. I would hesitate to recommend ANY brand, let alone model, of running shoe because they are all different for different people. If in doubt, try them out (Shout out to The Jog Shop, which regularly gets my custom and has a massive range...)

First in my age category at Parkrun this weekend with a 22:39. There were definitely older finishers than me but I'm taking it as running and firsts do not come easy.

Age grade 61.15%.

Highly recommend Whitstable parkrun if you are in the area. Lots of runners but a flat course with a kinda nature reserve thrown in.

All systems go for me in prep for London Marathon. Hoping I can find the 19 seconds I need to break 3 hours! Volume wise training is going ok but finding it hard to get in much speed work. Looking forward to running the race though for the first time and experiencing the atmosphere
Good luck. The atmosphere is very special but, personally, I found it a bit much at times. I think that's because I've done too many trail marathons, though!

However, I didn't feel that way the first time I ran it (my first marathon) - crossing that line was one of the best feelings ever.

Thanks - i've done Brighton twice only so hoping removing the Shoreham power station part and having some support will help!
