@Bob! Bit of a scare but you managed it well (maybe should have gone to the Doc earlier) and glad you're now being watched.
My schoolmate triathlon rival was unable to drink for 2 weeks before Xmas as on antibiotics for a tooth abcess. Made up for it Xmas Day. Obviously woke up feeling rough but by lunchtime decided an A&E visit was needed. Triage put him on a trolley and a drip immediately. Had all the tests same as you. It was AF. Given Beta Blockers for life and told to stop all competitive sport and cut out drinking binges. He has since jogged, done 25 mile bike trips and will swim when it warms up.
I'll see him at or before Grimsby and will give you an update. The problem for me is I have to do another tri on my own to be able to say I WON in 2023.😆
He's done an Iron-man in 12 hours and eats up mountains on a bike, so I guess It's not activity related. Good luck.

I've not been on this thread for a while.......

For about ten months now, I've had an (initially intermittent) issue with my running. I do most of my running at a slow pace, usually around 130/135 bpm.

My HR in these runs would sometimes start going to, and staying at, 170/180/190 bpm. Initially this would happen on my runs for a week or two, and then my runs would go back to normal 130 bpm runs.

The high HR runs started to continue for a few weeks so I rested, on return I would come back at normal rates.

Went to Doc's (she even done the google calculation of Max HR, and decided that I shouldn't be allowing my HR to go above 220-63 = 157), booked and had an ECG and bloods. Nothing showing. Advised it was ok to continue running.

High HR then became more persistent, hitting 200 on a slow parkrun. Went back to Doc (November) and got referred for a 24 hour monitor. Finally had the monitor fitted for 24 hours on Feb 6.

Results came back, appointment yesterday, ECG first then appointment.
24 hour monitor and ECG showing a Atrial Fibrulation and evidencing a 200bpm run during the 24 hour.

As of tonight when I collect my prescription am on a blood thinner to lower the risk of clotting from the AF, and a beta blocker to mange the High HR when excercising.

Would appreciate any advice from those of you manging this situation with running.

Just read that what I earlier took to be your max Heart Rate graph was NSC new style pop up adds. The cross on the right had me worried.

Not really technical advice but just a bit of solidarity. I'm about the same age as you and in 35 years of quite competitive running had never given a 2nd though to AHR. Then I got a Garmin 45 for Xmas......
My HR in races hovers around the 166 and peaks at around 178, which is beyond the usual max HR formula. (My cadence is also crazy at 240 max.)
As for the suggested training zones, I can't run slowly enough to get into zones 1 and 2; that's walking pace.
Further research revealed that things not a rigid as many guidelines suggest. However, you are well beyond these sort of norms. (I have a friend, a 55 year old woman runner, who is in the same boat as you and gets regular appointments with her cardiologist- but still runs.)
So, no advice or wisdom mate, just a wish for a successful medical intervention.

I've met your mate, I think. Sorry to hear about that scary episode but he sounds like a tough old geezer. But will you give him a handicap in your next one on one tussle?

As for you, welcome to the sick bay. I've withdrawn from the Chester 10k as I dont think I could complete let along compete.
One day soon we'll be chasing one another along a sunny prom!

That's terrible news and awful timing as you've been injury free(ish) for a long time.

A new 65+ has hit some highs this month. Kevin Lowe, who I beat at 800m by a second last summer, has got an indoor national Bronze and ran Hove Prom in 20:28 last time out.

You have met the rival/mate and I eagerly await suggesting he has a handicap.

Here's to a sunny Prom! 🌞 🏃‍♂️ 🏃‍♂️

I remember when Kev and I were running parkrun at around the same times as each other! Goes without saying those times weren't in the 20s...

Had an amazing run today at the Surrey Half Marathon, 1:18:36 for a 2 minute PB.
So happy as I wasn't sure how the marathon training was going after a bit of stop/start at the beginning of the year due to colds and flu.

Thought I'd gone off too fast when the first mile clocked in at 5:40 but settled into a decent pace ahead of plan in a group of 3 and decided to try and stick with it, if only to use them to shelter from the bit of wind we had.
Really thought I'd bonked between mile 9 and 10 but the gel I took kicked in eventually and I got a bit of a second wind.

Bring on London!

Excellent run @Blue&WhiteSea , that must put you right up there on the PB table.

Speaking of which it seems March/April seems to be when I peak as last year set a parkrun PB of 18:21 and yesterday I shaved a few more seconds off for 18:15 & 75.89%, it also got me first finsher at my local course for the first time. I was rather fortunate as to who had turned up (or rather who hadn't), a lot of at fast guys were doing the inter-counties XC champs.

Forgot to mention that I heard from another forum that one of @Bozza 's favourite sites, Keller Sports, has gone into administration. I'd signed up to premium membership and picked up a couple of bargains, a shame to see them go.

Well done. Surrey Half #10 for me, and finished in about 1:44 - some twenty minutes off my pb, but satisfactory given my current level of fitness.

I was surprised that there was nothing made of it being the 10th running of the event. I guess this maybe got missed in the change of organisers between last year and this.

Yep - the website stopped functioning a week or so back, and then I heard they'd gone under.

I often wondered how they managed to sell stuff at the prices they did. I guess they actually couldn't!

Moyleman (very brief) race report.

Yet another fabulous day up and down the hills surrounding Lewes. A combination of a lack of training, dodgy leg at about 20 miles and shite weather half way through meant that I crossed the line in 5:05:05. Slower than last year, but I wasn't too fussed. Lots of walking from 20 miles and Caburn is a killer so I was done in by then - mile 24 was 18 mins - so it was just about getting to Harvey's Yard however I could.

Fantastic team of volunteers including Gaffer @knocky1 - and did I see Mr Blobby there (can't tag him)? It's so well organised and just a good, honest race over the Downs. I know I sound like a broken record, but it is worth doing at least once. Not easy, but very special.

Great determined effort by @Greg Bobkin yesterday. I was up high on Beddingham Hill at 14 miles and a sunny morning turned wet windy just as the majority started along the Firle Bo Peep section. Great event and I've deferred for 2024. Highly recommend.
Thanks Gaffer. I really felt for you guys almost as much as us runners. At least we kept moving to keep warm(ish) and had something to occupy our minds – pain, mostly – while plodding along.

Part of me is tempted to do the relay one year. An old school mate of mine did it and said he ran all the way up from Southease to Firle (so past you!) and both runners' legs were around the 1:50 mark, which I thought was bloody good going! My halves were roughly 2:15 and 2:50

8 layers on top, thermals, hat and flask of hot tea. Toasty. 😆 I had ingeniously kept the gate open with a metal stake so I didn't have to hold it. Luckily I just managed to stop 300 sheep making a run through at 1 o'clock and had to close it.
The winner was 10" ahead of second by me and won in 2:52. Incredible

Some good deals on Asics trail shoes in the Asics outlet. Standout probably the GEL-SONOMA™ 6 G-TX, which is a Gore-tex shoe that is normally £135, but being sold for £50.40. If you join OneAsics (link at the top right of the below) you'll get a further 10% off too...

I didn’t like these at first, but just recently have started to love them. I can hold tempo paces far more comfortably with these.
I held off buying them when they launched as some of the reviews weren't favourable, but I took the plunge at some point and I've always loved mine.

I'd not run in them for quite a while, but put them on for yesterday's run and I was immediately reminded of how much fun they are. I was only heading out for 5-6 miles at an easy pace but ended running nearly nine and a half and about a minute/mile quicker than intended.

There's a Strava segment down through Tarring that I use as a little speed test now and again. My best time was in the Tempos - I've not been able to get close in the Vaporflys nor the Alphaflys.
