Managed a solo Mouth To Mouth, RED 10k in July and a LEJOG virtual event. I also suffered some knee problems for most of the year so overall pretty happy.

Set my quickest time of the year today :)rolleyes:) with a 19:30 at my second closest parkrun. They were using their B route which is almost all tarmac, however the course is about 150m long to try to prevent records being set on it, so Strava has it down as a 18:57 5k and all time PB.

As an added bonus it's quite a quiet event and I got very lucky with who turned up, and was first finisher.

Goal for this year it to try and get sub-18, but might move the goal posts slightly and say that can be on the track.

I've just 'rescued' our thread from the bottom place on page 5. This is the equivalent of the Albion finding themselves on the edge of National League (South). Tragic.
If we can populate it with our weekend runs then we can restore it to its rightful place towards the top of the EPL.

I've taken to running up hills in the evenings. But the evenings have to be mild and the hills have to be short. I've also altered my 'intervals' routine to 500m at 5k pace minus 10 seconds (i.e. just sub 4 mins per km pace for me), with 2 minute recoveries. Only managed 6, so room for improvement.

Hope this will enable my 5k times to be maintained or (ideally) improved. Anyone else tweaked their training for the new year?

If, by tweaked, you mean let it fall off a cliff due to a combination of too much work, rain (I know, I know) and life getting in the way, then yes. And I'm nailing it!

Just a couple of miles this morning, but hoping for a longer one tomorrow morning. I'm definitely not going to be running as much as last year and won't be getting hung up on if I don't run every day. I've realised the value of rest days, plus life/work is going to get in the way and I don't need the extra mental pressure on my head.

So, in a more serious answer to your question, GNT – yes, I guess I have! I've still got Moyleman and Manchester to train for (plus whatever else follows later in the year), so I can't afford to take my eye off the ball too much.

I’m struggling a bit. I had a hard December when I ran nearly every day and clocked up a few good (for me) 5k times on the treadmill plus some longer distances around 10k outside.

In an effort to improve further I decided I need to mix my training, rest more and cut out alcohol. 8 days in and I’m all over the place ! I’ve stuck to my plan but have little motivation and keep putting off going out for a run.

I think I need to revert to my December approach but fear pushing myself until injured.

Just saying!!

Well done - that's a cracking run. I think you'd have grounds to be a bit miffed by that 'extra' 150 m. I can see why they've done it, but Parkruns are by definition 5k, not 5.15k.Good luck with getting that PB................

The board has full confidence in you...........Seriously, your track record, including that hellish Ironman in Wales (Tenby, I recall) indicates that sort of madness that can be re-visited for those two upcoming events. Good luck!

I'm already wondering quite how I managed to average 8.5 miles a day last year.

Even this early into the year, I was behind that rate until I decided to run an impromptu HM last night whilst the lad was at scouts. I had to scrape ice off the windscreen to drive him there, and from there I ran a big loop of Worthing at an easy pace, primarily because some of the surfaces underfoot were quite treacherous. I managed to stay upright, just, arriving back at the scout hut in time to scrape ice off the windscreen again just as he came out.

Got some funny looks for being in short shorts from the other parents who were more appropriately dressed for the temperature!

Rather challenging conditions for parkruns today. I did Bognor which thankfully is not exposed to that wind and escapes the worst of underfoot conditions by virtue of decent paths. However it's never going to be a fast course. 22.00 was an OK return.

Respect goes to a guy pushing a double buggy (!) around a course with a great many sharp turns, and getting a very decent time.

Yep, Tenby it was. Awesome experience but fitness-wise it feels like a world away from now. But the difference between now and this time two years ago is that I actually WANT to be out running and really enjoy it when I do make it out.

As to your point about this thread slipping down the board –*it might not be busy at the moment, but it must be one of the oldest threads that is still active on NSC. I'm sure Bozza has a easy way of working that out but, based on a quick glance of the first few pages of The Big Board, there don't seem too many others...

Went to the new local (flat) parkrun yesterday to see how I'm progressing after recent focus on trails. Smashed my 5k record by nearly two minutes (22:13) despite a largely sleepless 2 year old all week and a flooded course. Think I can actually go faster!

Doing a brown orienteering course today for the first time. :)

First run of the year for me. I got a Fenix 6 for my birthday and today is the first time I've used it for running. Does anyone else have one? It measured the first mile WAY short. I ran what I know is a 5k, yet it measured the run as 3.5 miles and the middle mile way short which gave me an 8 min mile dead. I've not run one of those in a while.

Will it sort itself out?

It's amazing that the thread is still going strong after over 11 years. It's really cool to look back at the contributions for a bit of nostalgia and to see who was getting their runs and races in. It's also nice to think that the thread was born in a brilliant season for the Albion and the start of something very special. I hadn't taken up running just yet but I was lucky enough to be at Walsall away.

Well I’m guilty of not contributing to the thread much in the last few months…….although still lurk occasionally. AT continues to slowly improve, I’m still just doing mostly ‘maintenance plodding’ with not much effort or volume at all at the moment. Definitely need to lose some lard and get cracking but low on mojo at the moment- haven’t run an event of any kind since bailing my last one on the track in July. Need a kick up the jacksie.

When I drove by you near the end of your run at M&S petrol station I thought you looked very hot and distressed. Thought it was from months of not running not a dodgy watch.:lol:

Keep at it. You're going to need to be extremely fit to keep up with that small bundle of energy you now have.
