Thanks for the encouragement out on the course yesterday Gaffer knocky1

Very happy with how yesterday turned out, knocked 7 minutes off the HM PB, down to 1.32.31. A bit cooler and breezier than I was expecting, the sun came out just at the off and had my shades on ready for things to warm up, the sun promptly disappeared for the next 13 miles so that was a decision well made! The splits for each full mile ranged from 6.55 to 7.13 so pretty happy with the consistency I achieved. The volunteers were their usual brilliant selves, big shout out to Simgull at the 11 mile water station :) That's a 2021 PB in each of my four distances now in the bag, took another 5 seconds off of my 5K time a week back so now to the excitement of table update requests....

5K - 20.33 (AG 67.40)
10K - 43.03 (from the Phoenix in July)
HM - 1.32.31
M - to split hairs my time should be 3.28.03 - when I say should be I mean it should be sub 3.25 but I'm over this now :lolol:

Thanks in advance for the update Gaffer.
Cheers guys and happy running

Fantastic performance! Well done on all the PBs

Thanks for the heads up Bozza! Some good Garmin HRM deals on Amazon at the moment. The Pro is their all singing all dancing (multi-discipline) HRM. The Run is very good for slightly less $.

If anyone is looking for a straight forward running HRM at an even more reasonable cost this Wahoo HRM is great - https://amzn.to/2YBl7kn

After a decent pair of running shoes, I'd say investing in a HRM is the second most useful running tool. It can be a real game-changer to improving.

Nice piece in the Guardian today about the 'Win The Morning, Win The Day' movement

’You feel like a child again!’ Would exercising at 5am make you a happier person?

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeand...d-exercising-at-5am-make-you-a-happier-person

Have to say it struck a chord. Started doing early morning runs at start of first lockdown and, well, basically, have never stopped. Actually now miss it if I don't do it. Love having the park just abou all to myself. Don't go very far and certainly don't go very fast, but got 120 early morning jogs under the belt last year, despite being sidelined by gout for 3 months over the summer. Already up to 160 dawn runs this year. Just got to get out of the shower-and-back-to-bed-with-nice-cup-of-tea-and-NSC routine now :moo:

I've never been much of a morning runner - I run after dark in the PM more often than I do in the AM.

As a non-racer, I didn't even know the Worthing 10km was on yesterday - held along the front where I cover a fair few miles - until a chap in the Instagram running community I converse with a fair bit asked if I was coming down to abuse him. I said I'd see what I could do.

When he went through the finishing line, I was still in bed, asleep, about to wake up with a hangover. I finally made it out for my run at 9:40pm during which I saw more foxes than humans!

That said, since my son started secondary school this term, which has had a big impact on the family morning routing, I am out walking the dog most mornings just after 6:30am.

Got an old pair or two of running shoes cluttering up your home? Runners Need are 'running' their "We Want Your Old Running Shoes" recycling promotion. Drop on old pair of running shoes in their shoe recycling bins at one of their stores and they'll give you a £20 voucher to go towards a new pair of shoes, bought in store or online.

The old shoes are either donated to organisations for disadvantaged people around the world to use or broken down into raw materials and recycled to make new things! Keeping them out of landfill. The £20 voucher promotion runs until Nov. 21st, but their recycling bins are in store all year round.

Bloody Worthing!
Thanks for updating the table Gaffer. Nice to be back at the top but fear that I might just be keeping the seat (throne) warm for a younger pretender..........

My first evening run in the dark this year (actually for a number of years). If Saturday night is the night for fighting, then in Worthing at least, Tuesday night is the night for running as I saw within the space of an hour 5 separate groups of runners running in synch/ doing drills on the prom.

10k in what should have been as easy-paced 48.55 but didn't feel it as I still had Sunday's miles in the legs.

What I'm taking from that table is that Blue&WhiteSea needs to sign up for a marathon, because they could be giving Artie Fufkin a run for his money

On a different note, I'm partway through watching something from the other day about the Dragon's Back race in Wales. It looks absolutely bonkers!

I ordered a pair of SAUCONY ENDORPHIN SPEED 2 for £108 (rrp £155) yesterday as seemed a very decent price: https://www.runningxpert.com/en/saucony-men-s-endorphin-speed-2.html

Heard a lot of good things about them and the Kinvara used to be my go to before the Nike’s so am keen to give them a go.

Absolute bargain. They didn’t have my size unfortunately.

Interestingly I refreshed the page and the price went from £108 to £128 so potentially an error on their part.

Only problem is I find more bargains than I actually run

I got the tracking email so hopefully it's too late for them to correct if it was an error!

Welcome to my world - I have 17 pairs of running shoes and I still often "just take a look" most days and often spot something that seems too good to pass up!

I've decided I have to cut down and I'm currently focusing on wearing out a few pairs that are quite high mileage. I think my ideal rotation would be 10 pairs...

7 road - 5 daily/easy and 2 speedy
3 trail - ideally one being Gore-Tex

No way would I have time to properly train for a marathon! My best times are all from when I trained hard for a 10 mile pb 5 years ago pre children!

Hmm, one look at your SB time and I think you could still do a decent time.

I sympathise with having to juggle kids and life around running and a training plan. That's why I always head out early morning. Any other time of the day, it's not gonna happen!

I hope the 3 trail includes a set of XC spikes, gotta have a bit of competitive mud running in your life in my opinion!
