I really don't understand why there are concerns about Hove Park and Preston Park, it doesn't seem like the storms are going to hit so early. Unless a tree falls in the night to block the course, I'm struggling to understand why there is concern about either. BUT, ultimately, it's volunteer led and I don't think it's going to be a whole lot of fun for anyone standing around tomorrow morning! Nothing but respect for those who do. I'm probably going to go and hit Bevendean, my work rate this week has been a joke and in order to meet some deadlines on monday I'm going to need to put some hours in on saturday. Bevendean is ideal for going to work afterwards.

See you there via Wilson's Avenue.

Are there concerns ? Both their FB pages indicate they're probably going ahead.................

Yeah, both had posted warnings about potential late cancellation. It's looking better today but all it will take is a tree to fall and it'll be off. I've now got my heart set on Bevendean, probably with a drive rather than a cycle to get there!

Forecast certainly looking better than it did last night With Dennis addicting a bit later. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully all will be ok in the morning, otherwise my decision to attend an Indian festival last weekend rather than parkrun will look doubly stupid!

Have a good weekend of running guys and take care out there in the wind.

Talking of 5k's, the annual Armagh 5k international road race was pretty sensational last night. It's fast becoming one of the leading 5k road races around. 20 guys went under 14:00 and 137 sub 15:00 (gun time)!! The field is stacked with some seriously rapid guys.

Here's a cool IG video of the swarm of guys racing to the line to try to dip under 15:00 - https://www.instagram.com/p/B8hV_MkHmdc/?igshid=1ruovg46selvd

A few of the boys I follow on Strava were all sub-15 there yesterday - incredible. And a young lady I follow ran the 3k in 9:51! Sensational pace all around.

Just exceptional running from some unbelievably talented "club runners" Ninja!

In comparison, it blows my mind that Eliud Kipchoge averaged 14:24 per 5k on his way to breaking the marathon world record with his 2:01:39 in Berlin in 2018. That is just bonkers.

I see from Strava it was the teeny, tiny hill at Bradford. Have you done Cliffe Castle - the hill there is a brute!
I’ve done quite a few around Leeds as in laws are near Skipton - Roundhay, Skipton, Myrtle but the pick is Fountains Abbey - have you been? Best one I’ve done. None of the above are flat - maybe Woodhouse Moor would be best for a fast time.

Thanks for this - I did Cliffe Castle on Christmas Day. It's practically mountainous!

Going to try Woodhouse Moor tomorrow sleep-permitting.

Arena were there. 15.23 and finishing 187th! He is the man I procured for the first NSC Weakest Link relay Team. Myself, Bobkin, Clayton and a NSC runner I can't remember. We did well that year.

Women 3k:
43rd Maisie Trafford 9:51 – PB (Pursued By Ninja?)
Men 5k:
187th Richard Clayton 15:23 – PB

The word is "Followed", knocky1! I take a general interest in anyone who absolutely slaughters me in the finish of a parkrun. She absolutely motored away from me once, her milage is impressive along with the quality of the sessions. She doesn't seem to be an overtrainer like some I follow. Take a little bit of something from everyone without trying to copy the perceived negative traits!

Only just realised the AG was SB not PB, so thanks for looking that one up for me knocky1.

Having set my PB over 5 years ago now, I realise that I am very close to setting an AG PB even if I'm still a way off my time PB. Parkrun really should record AG PBs I think!

Speaking of rapid times, the course record holder at my local event was there last week with his dog, they did it in 13:32. I gather he's about 2 mins quicker with the dog! As the course record was set back in 2012 (15:17), I'm not sure whether that was with or without the dog. I know they now mark them as assisted so don't count for course records, but don't know if they were doing that back then.

Superb running! Is the AB Training Group considered Arena's "elite" group? They have some very talented runners. I think they're based in Brighton or at least Sussex.

Not Arena from their 27 strong Strava group I recognise 2 Arena and Tom Ireland from Rogue Runners. I have never heard of them. Simgull May know about them.

This does ring a bell - I think AB are the initials of a woman who trains a bunch of people - I think it’s quite informal but a pretty high standard.

Edit. - article here ... https://saysky.dk/blogs/saysky-journal/ab-training-group

They were training in Hove Park Tuesday. A real who’s who or Sussex long distance running.

Easy to see how training as a group can be effective as they are all reasonably close in terms of ability.

Bloody Worthing!
Pleased to say that Lancing went ahead and that conditions were a lot more benign than expected. 23.44 for me, which I was pleased with in atrocious conditions (note slight contradiction here). Not many old gits around but showed a clean (if muddy) pair of heels to those who turned up. A 70.65% AG, so no need to trouble our esteemed scorer. Probably the 'best' of my 3 runs this year, so expect a sub-16 by June!

knocky1 and I dragged ourselves around Bevendean this morning, the Gaffer having already run just under 7 miles to get there.

Because of his lengthy warm up, he allowed me to romp home to glory - 2 minutes clear of the second place 9 (NINE) year old who bullied a couple of gents in the final straight to get home for silver. I felt pretty confident I'd be in good standing but I'm a little disappointed not to dip under 20 minutes, 20:07 is the gun time. I don't think I could have found too much more but I cruised around the course for a final lap really comfortably so I probably could have run sub-20, but nevermind. I'm looking forward to going back after the marathon is out of the way and having a real go at getting a sub-19 on that course.

The Complete Badger and Left Back also ran Lancing with Garry Nelson's teacher, so it was THE place to be this morning!
