The hip issue causing problems for the knee is interesting - I've been feeling my left knee a bit this week, it's fine when I get moving but it feels a bit sore before and after a run. I need to get into yoga I think, my flexibility is little more than a joke and I think it would make a big difference. I'm doing desk acrobatics this afternoon to keep the legs moving, I just have to hope I don't kick lumps out of the pretty French girl who sits opposite me.

60 minutes at 8 mins per mile for me this lunch time, I ran in 7:55 ultimately but did the required time. I don't feel like the recovery from the 8 x 1km sprints on tuesday has gone overly well but I'll be off my feet now until saturday's parkrun at Kettering, my latest effort for a sub-19 in 2019. I feel a swim coming on for tomorrow though - time to get shown up by the grannies in the pool again. :lolol:

That’s good and hopefully you’ll recover and improve your times.......BUT did it hurt?

I have visions of you doing back-flips off of your desk now. It's not just the French girl you need to avoid kicking, but the ceiling tiles too!

Meanwhile, over on the Bell Cheeses At Work thread someone has just posted:

"Unbelieveable. The bloke who spends most of his day staring wistfully at Marie-Claude has now started doing SOMERSAULTS down the aisle to get his coffee and has BACKFLIPPED through his monitor. I wouldn't mind but the bloke's never here on time in the morning."

:lolol: If only. I've managed a few walks around the floor, we're open plan so you can do a complete lap without going through a single door. Lovely. And done plenty of stretching out under the desk. The Frenchie did ask if I was trying to play footsie with her, I confirmed that I was.

She moved.

Funnily enough was reading a fascinating (if you like this kind of thing) piece on this (comparison of track v road 5ks) last night - have a read of this.

https://medium.com/@willmycroft/the-unreasonable-speed-of-certain-road-5k-races-77754c9c7078

Interesting stats. And I fall into the bracket of running a quicker 5k on road than track. Finished last and got lapped by 6/8 runners in my way to an 18:30 time. 2 seconds off my pb from 2 months ago at Seaford.

Competitive field bar the last 2 runners.

I’ll bury the news by doing a table update.
Good you took it on. Ninja Elephant will be adding a few fist pumps to his acrobatics routine.

Judging by Strava though, you might have done a bonus flying lap - are you certain you didn't? Your splits are superb, consistently quick. Maybe the issue was more a lack of real track experience? I'm sure that if you ran on a track more frequently and got more used to the difference in pacing, you'd be able to get under 18 minutes. Even with the Promenade, it might be flat and straight for long periods but you lose all speed into the cone turns, which you do 4 times. You never have to lose that pace on a track. I'm tempted to do a 5k around the cycle track in Preston Park and see if that's quicker.

It did add a little bit of extra motivation in the pool this morning! I'm not sure how I'd have coped if the bar was raised even higher - but I'd have been delighted to see the big man get that little bit closer to catching your all time PB of 17:45

Lack of experience was definitely a factor. I went by my watch not the laps and I thought I was on for a cracking time. I realised my watch was going to take me over around lap 8 but not by 0.23 miles almost a full lap.

I should have gone by the clock and go with lap times. One to remember next year, as despite getting well and truly thrashed I did enjoy it.

To be fair, having looked at the other chaps who ran it on Strava - they weren't hanging around! 14odd for the winning time.

A nice jump up the table for sjamesb3466 keeps the old AG until next PB.

I had a close finish in Dingle for the AG Gold. I'd not checked the 11 year old whippersnapper. Just got him by 0.5%, if I'd been aware I'd have tripped him at the start.

Still haven't reached my 500 mile Brighton Marathon mileage target due to more laziness. Going to work on getting to 700+ to get my biggest annual total in history.

Currently at 1,242 this year.....not sure I've ever been that high at this stage.....speed has suffered though I think as lots of slow hilly stuff in that and a lack of intervals/tempo

I’m up to 850 and have run at least 100 miles each calendar month, year to date.

Looking well set to surpass (injury permitting) my previous highest which I think is around 1130 from memory.

I'm up to 915, I've made it to 950 or so before but never topped the thousand. It would take a disaster not to reach it this year.

Just the 688 the year, but trying to stick to 100 miles a month for no other reason that it gets me out there! Just the 18 needed by next Friday, so I might even get to 110-ish for August!

365 miles so far this year... don't think I'll be topping 1000 somehow!

Brick session for me today, I have no idea how triathletes can race making that transition from cycling to running, I can barely feel my legs doing it.

773 miles year to date. Hopefully the stretches and Beachy Head training will get me well over 1000 miles for the year. In related injury news a spiky massage ball came from Amazon this morning and it seems it's not only Jesus Mark II that can make me yelp in pain.

I missed what it was you did having been away for 2 weeks. Tom Ulliot Boy’s Race. I’ll see you there next year. Arena got the times below. You must have been running with a few of them. First home for Arena is our Weakest Link Loanee from 4 years back.

Richard Clayton - SM - 15:47
Henry Miller - U23 - 16:54
Del Wallace - V40 - 17:06
Jim Risdale - V35 - 17:09
Michael William Rix - V45 - 17:11
Dan Vaughan - V45 - 17:34
Marcus Dwyer - V45 - 19:03
Dan King - V45 - 19:18
Trevor Day - V55 - 19:29

I think numbers 3 to 6 were all in my race. No official results in as far as I know.

It’s a really good event and I’d love another chance soon but will probably have to wait 12 months.

Just turning up without much of a plan wasn’t the best idea. Next time I’ll set my stall out for consistent laps and see where that takes me.
