Worthing
I had a wisdom tooth out couple of years back. Dentist said no exercise for 5 days. I ignored her and the wound opened up. She really shouted at me when I went back. She's good at her job..

I learnt long ago to listen to experts!
My dentist said no running after the extraction, so I resisted the temptation to “just do an easy short run” and rested for a few days. Luckily, during the taper rather than the mile-building phase, so hopefully won’t be too detrimental.

That's a fantastic time, congrats!

Good luck in Manchester. I'm hoping to see another sub 3 marathon on the board.

My next race is a 5k on St Patrick's Day, so it appears we've set each other targets!

thanks very much Badger ! Still in awe of your metronomic miles splits in the marathon. So strong! All the best for the St Patrick's Day 5k! No doubt you'll fly.

Has anyone seen the course map for this year's Brighton Marathon?

I got a message from the mate I run with on Sunday's sometimes, saying that it was out and that the hill at Lewes Rd and the one up to the windmill near St Dunstans had stayed on the course. However, it's not up on the official Marathon weekend site yet, nor have I had an email, so I do wonder if he's managed to google last year's by mistake.

Does the addition of these hills - both unnecessary - have anything to do with the binning off of the pro elite runners (i.e Duncan Maiyo et al)? You could easily turn further down Lewes Rd to keep it flat and stretch more in to Ovingdean. Were they added because of road closure issues or was the answer to the elites complaining about them to get rid of elites?

There is a bit at the Ovingdean/St Dunstan's roundabout that seems to head up the hill instead of back to town. The first ones used to go up there. I can't see where they have taken out any distance, unless it's round the Steine where it seems to not go as far to the seafront. Just a little bit so not far up Beacon Hill.

Good man thanks

The Participant portion of the site still has the words "The 2019 course map will be available to view online soon" with no button on so your direct link was very useful.

It looks like the hill they had in the Marathon and BM10K last year, off Lewes Rd, is still there. Might be St Martin's Place. It was annoying enough in a 10k and was probably the reason I was the wrong side of 50 mins by a few seconds. Why they have to stick it in a marathon I have no idea. But, yes, also looks like you do a left at St Dunstans on your way back out of Ovingdean, which wasn't there in 2016. It's the hill up to the windmill, a nasty beggar to get up and steep enough that you can't make it up going back down. Appreantly the elites all used to complain about it so I'm not sure why it's been back in for the last couple of years.

Oh well, can't change it now.

But it is never ending!!!

I completely agree. I found that the worst part when I did the marathon in 2011. Especially when you turn on to Grand Avenue and see the faster runners turning back on to the seafront and think "I'll be there soon." No, no you won't.

It ends at my house though (more or less). So my family and friends are at Boundary Rd and, as a bonus, if I've had enough I can just vault the barriers and go for a beer and a lie down ( knocky1 wishes :lolol: )

Just doing some analysis on my marathon times :lolol:

Kipchoge will need to watch out in five year's time.

Nothing further from the truth. I want us both to go sub 4 in a particular order.

Top man.

Maybe we'll be sprinting* it out together down Marine Parade for NSC bragging rights. That should be one for the archives.

Sprinting the last few hundred yards = guaranteed cramp [emoji23][emoji23]

(Speaking from personal experience......London Marathon, turn into the finishing straight on the Mall, see the cameras on the gantry, aim for the middle of the road and speed up for the brilliant photo finish..........aaaarrrggggh bollocks, hamstring locks up with 100 yards left in full view of 000’s of people. ****)

If you can sprint the end of a marathon it means you haven't tried hard enough in the rest of the race
