I decided to have a quiet week after familiar foot issues after last Sunday's run. Only a precaution but I'm much more risk averse after last years problems. A few days rest seems to have settled things down and managed a 15 miler after a particularly nice red and take away ruby helped see February in and a return to my strict training dietary plan.

I'm thinking I might join the nsc contingent at Worthing next week. I enjoyed it last year and I quite like the idea of a race to break up the Sunday training runs but will decide later in the week.

Skipped PR again as I'm still trying to build up the miles for the Worthing HM. Managed 11.6 miles today - the last couple were tough.

I'm as ready as I'm gonna be, probably not looking at much below 1:50, but I'll be happy with that .... roll on next Sunday.

I've met a few on here, hopefully will see a few more post race to say "Hi" and put faces to names?

I’d highly recommend the Bedgebury 10 mile it’s a lovely undulating course which is a mixture of trail and bike tracks. With the wet weather the Saucony trail shoes making their debut, came into their own. First time I’ve ever run in trails and great to go full whack down the hills.

Finished in a pleasing 8th place in 1:07:12 but like the Mince Pie it’s a little under 10 miles, or at least it is according to Garmin.

One more training run Tuesday then it’s onto the battle royale as I aim to level the series with [MENTION=13055]Ninja Elephant[/MENTION]

I decided at the beginning of the year to start training for a sub 3 hour marathon; I'm five weeks in now and it still seems achievable. It's been fun building up the mileage and alternating between easy pace long runs and long runs that start easy pace, progress to marathon pace for a majority of the run, and then go all out at the end. I was first finisher at parkrun the other week when I was running the last 5k of a 26km run doing this latter type of run - much to my surprise! (I time it so that I tag on to the back of the parkrun pack as they set off so that I don't have to stop running, and I couldn't see who was at the front so I didn't realise until the end when they handed me the barcode that I'd overtaken everyone!) - it was obviously a small turnout though, I'm not fast enough to do that on a typical week!

What pace have you been doing your long runs at?

I've amended the table with my 19:00 dead from Hove Promenade on saturday.

I ran a very hilly 14 miler today, and I'm feeling a bit of right foot issue at the moment so I plan to get in the pool and potentially leave off the miling this week.

This is great. Will do my best to get to the bottom before doing a parkrun. Unlike Knocky I hate anything under about 10 miles.

Coach had me down for a parkrun next week. Sadly had to tell him I’ll be on my way to Stoke [emoji23][emoji23]

On NSC for over two decades...
At Mrs Orange's suggestion, as we needed to be there and we couldn't work out how to fit a long run in otherwise, I ran to Dorking today - 17 miles and over 1000 foot gain in near enough two an a half hours running setting all sorts of new personal endurance records for me. I shall sleep well tonight (though I may have nightmares about swamp monsters at Newlands Corner!

If you get a chance could you add my 5K SB and AG for 2018 as 23:35 and 69.19% please. Unimpressive, but I'm struggling with a hip flexor injury which is really playing havoc with my preparation for Brighton half and full at the moment, and it hurts quite a lot even on a Parkrun.
I'd be in favour, for selfish reasons, of adding a lifetime AG column to the table alongside a season's AG :)

Thanks for updating the table [MENTION=15605]knocky1[/MENTION]. I can’t believe we’re into February and I’m still in a Champions League spot. I’ll start looking at entry for the Belgrade Marathon, the Bucharest 10k, Riga parkrun or wherever else I might be sent in Eastern Europe in August for a qualifier.

26.5km for me this morning at 4:47/km. It felt quite good but also not like I could go an awful lot faster, which concerns me as I think my 1:35:00 goal for next week might be too optimistic.

Look at your consistency, man! Incredible scenes. Switch your view to miles rather than KM and look at how there are only a few seconds between each mile. If you knew you were limiting yourself to 13.1 miles rather than the additional few, you could run at 7:20 per mile which gets you below the 1:35. I think the thing for you to consider on raceday is not to go mental early. Get yourself with the 1:30 target people and sit in at 7:20-7:30 per mile and then if you're at the halfway stage at 47:00 then you're on for the target time and then you can start to think about taking a few seconds per mile off, but no more than that until you've only got a parkrun ahead of you and then it's beans time!

Hey guys, great to see some epic running this weekend. I had a go at the Watford Half yesterday and it was a nice scenic "undulating" closed road course around the Herts countryside. A couple of short but steep hills thrown in. Nice size (around 2000 entries I think), great organisers and brilliant marshalls. Would definitely recommend it for those in the greater London area. I was planning to take it steady and stick with the 1:40 pacer but after a couple of miles I felt good so kicked on and pleased to make it home in 1:28:54. Didn't think I was in a sub 90 condition at the moment so pleased with the result. I'm doing the Hillingdon Half in a couple of weeks pacing a friend for her 1:50 PB goal time, and I then have London's Big Half in early March. Anyone else in for the Big Half?

Hey! Yes my local is Canons Park parkrun in NW London. A relatively new one (2 yrs old) and it gets around 100 each Sat. I try to go at least once a month. My parkrun PB is 18:40. Been meaning to try the Worthing Half as a few of my relatives have ran it and it goes past my mum's house in Goring. Maybe next year.

Good luck with the hip flexor injury. Have you seen a sport's injury specilialist? Mine were like tightened elastic bands but over the last last week have managed to release them with various stretches and exercises and a rest from hills.
I'm not sure about the AG historical max but the table is NSC runners not mine.

Why did I decide to train for a marathon during Canadian winter? Saturday was a good paced 10K, but that was partly because of wanting to get away from the waterfront with a windchill temperature of about -20C! Sunday was 19K in the snow, some of it pretty thick on the ground. My quads and ankles definitely knew about that.

Looks like some good running from the NSC group this weekend. I need to start matching names with NSC usernames. I can't believe Strava doesn't provide this facility!

What pace have you been doing your long runs at?

My "easy" long run pace has been 4:55 - 5:00/km. Really to just get time on my feet.

For the progression long runs I'll start at that easy pace, progress to marathon pace (4:15/km), and then hit sub 4:00/km for the last 5k.

I'm thinking I might do a 32km run all at marathon pace in the lead up to the marathon as well though. I'd rather overtrain and get injured than undertrain and not get close to my goal.
