Thanks, this last 2 miles is a climb that just keeps getting steeper but your never far from a hill at any point. 2160ft elevation gain overall.

Great effort. You're going from strength to strength. Lucky that my flare up allows me to avoid a serious beating at the 1066 Way.

Ran The Sussex Marathon today. My local race which almost goes past my house. I managed to avoid the temptation to dive in and put my feet up and came in at 3:48 and 6th place??!! Couldn't have been many running, hopefully got into double figures at least but I'll take it. I was wary of doing this as so close to 1066 but I think I've got away with it as feel ok. Tomorrow will be the test.
Strava is messing me about again. Seem to be having upload issues all the time at the moment.

Edit. 38 runners in total. Won't be going pro after all

Well done - great effort.

I did a little 5 mile x-country in Slinfold (little village near Horsham). A bit slow at 38:08 but fast enough for a category win (I got a 2nd place last year but ran faster). Happy with that - lovely time of year if the weather is kind.

6th. That's excellent. On a related note I have been looking up the North Korean Pyongyang marathon. They give proper gold, silver and bronze medals and have a stadium based podium ceremony for amateurs. My PB would have got me 3rd place and a bronze medal last year.

Good question. Not sure of the answer. It depends on what you want to achieve. Both are above normal levels of fitness. Keep on as you are mixing it up. I'm still surprised (but very happy) how my non running wife stays with me on an 8 hour walk.

As you enjoy the walking weekend I see no point giving this up. So if fitness is your aim maybe push the running more? A 20 minute jog is a good starting point to push on from. If you're jogging just once a week at the weekend I would suggest getting out during the week as well. If you're trying to build fitness I'd suggest running at least three times a week. Park Runs are recommended and good to add to the mix.

You sound like longer-distance trail running would suit you down to the ground. Intermittent jogging and hiking (majority of trail runners hike any major uphills, including during races). As others have said, depends on your objectives really. The running will strengthen/increase your aerobic capacity compared with walking. Rather than alternating the two, combine them sometimes perhaps ? Couple of hours on the trails with a mix of both would be great - that's basically what loads of my longer training runs consist of anyway.

Some good suggestions, I may well give the walk & combined jog a go; my favourite walking routes has a number of underlations and inclines so can spread out some jogs on the easier sections.

I'd love to manage it more than once a week but family and work just doesn'the allow it at the moment; two young kids and the other half working shifts plus my job isn't a great combination for spare time!

Sussex Trail Events organise great races - very low key and friendly. They've got their Downslink race on today if you wanted to go and have a look......38 miles following the full trail from Guildford to Shoreham.

Not sure if they've finalised the M2M route yet, but it's either Littlehampton to Shoreham or the other way round. Either way, it'll be a few miles of flat but probably muddy riverbank, up to and along the SDW (some big lumpy hills) and then another flat (muddy) riverbank section - think the three bits are more or less equal in length (ie 8-9 miles each). Difficulty will depend on the weather a bit - if it's dry underfoot it won't be too bad, if it's very wet parts of it could be hard work ! Kithurst and Chanctonbury hills will slow you down a bit too - definitely worth doing a few training runs on the course - specificity of training and being familiar with the terrain always helps.

Thanks for the info, I have never done any running on or around that part of the south downs way so I think I will follow your advice and do some training runs over that way and particularly the hilly sections.

I literally just chose the event because it fits in with my training dates wise but sounds like its likely to be a good event though so really looking forward to it.

I helped myself to a 20.5 miler today, 2:48:59. The route was flat as a pancake. I ran out to Shoreham and then up the South Downs Way so far as Upper Beeding and then back down to Shoreham Beach. It was a nice route, I started to run out of puff at mile 18, but I've got a couple more long runs to tackle so come marathon raceday I think I'm looking good for a 3:30.

I have no idea. Probably. :blush: I basically ran one of the 3 laps of the Lunar-Tic Marathon in reverse.

Whilst painfully cycling along Hove Prom I'm sure I spotted a rare coastal visit of [MENTION=474]Mr Blobby[/MENTION] comfortably motoring past The View (or Babylon Cafe or West End Cafe depending on age).

Yep, went to a party in Brighton Saturday night so was staying at my Mums in Hove. Decided to do a slow hangover/cobweb clearing run with a difference, so decided to see as many snow dogs as possible. Managed 12 miles and 20 snowdogs in 2 hours 15 mins! Was surprised with the time as included stopping for a selfie with each doggie! I love running along the seafront!Doggies.jpg

Having totally relapsed thanks to a couple of plane journeys I at least managed to get in to see Paul aka Jesus tomorrow. While Radius were fine I always got the impression they left enough out so you had to go and see them again. I'm desperately hoping for a one visit miracle. If anyone can, he can.

I haven't seen the yellow gloves since I fell off the NSC Brighton Marathon train!

They made an appearance in London (too hot for them around the course, but hands were freezing when I started), but have been stashed away since then.

Some potentially good news from Paul. While all I can really do is ice pack the re-injured knee that should start to work relatively quickly. The underlying cause, however, may be weak left hip flexor due to an old football injury, which is why it flares up when I do that. Strengthen that muscle (when recovered) and I should be able to do both sports again, just in time to start serious half and full marathon training.

Talking of which it's always good to be able to start your chat with your physio with the line "did Stuart mention I beat him in the marathon?" :)

Apparently my Parkrun '50' milestone t-shirt turned up in the post today. Shame I won't be able to wear it until next week at the earliest. Feels like the hamstring is loosening up again, so fingers crossed - though I'm not going to push it with Dunsfold 10k coming up next month.

Well done on chalking up your 50. I'm just in front of you (if not in times and finishing positions) but I've noticed that some folk are north of 250 parkruns........impressed.

If parkrun wasn't run at 9am on a saturday morning, I'd be in the 50 club now! :blush:

I felt my hamstring tighten up a touch today, I did 6x1km sprints, I wanted to do them in 4 minutes but wasn't capable of such speed so I ran them all in 4:30 instead, the 20 miler from sunday still weighing down my legs and I did some strengthening work in the gym yesterday. I'm feeling confident about the San Sebastian marathon though, I think if I can carry on as I am and not do anything silly, I should be able to run the 3:30 I'm training for. I'm off to Turkey for the week on saturday, so I'll miss out on the Bright10 on the 16th which is a shame - but if anyone wants a free entry they're more than welcome to mine.
