Just binned a run, or technically never left the house. I'll be going this evening though. My cough is getting there and I feel 100% otherwise. However, I got up early, took one look outside and at my weather app and decided my first one back was better off in the dry tonight than the pouring rain this morning. So I'm going to have a coffee and listen to that show [MENTION=30744]Pembury[/MENTION] just recommended :)

Does this make me "not hardcore"?

Ha, you won't lift any trophies with that attitude.

Definitely makes you not stupid.

Not at all. Put on your woollen vest and a warm scarf this evening though, you don't want another chill.

Just listened to a couple of interesting radio programs called Eating to run on the bbc iplayer. Well worth a listen, only 30 mins each episode. They go into how diet affects running performance and looked into the different fueling technics of Kenyan, Japanese and South American runners.. Fascinating stuff.
Scott Jurek? His diet is HORRIBLE :-D

If I had a choice I'd greatly prefer the Dean Karnazas way. Salmon and brocolli for pretty much every dinner and no refined carbs or sugar sounds like hard work but the guy can eat fully loaded pizzas, burritos and chocolate covered espresso beans during a race while not dropping pace :drool:

So I have taken on peoples advice and just focused on getting "time on my legs" rather than the panic about distance.

The last two days have been horrendous weather wise in BN10 but I've actually waited for the worst weather and then gone out for 3.6 and 4miles respectively. The logic being, running into the wind is "resistance". I have no idea if that's stupid of me.

Anyway, both wen't quite well. I've now got to get a long run into my legs (probably Wednesday) but won't attempt the 10 I did last week as that was agony. Probably and 8 on wed and a 9 on Saturday?

Again, I'm just making this up as I go along.

Anyway, both wen't quite well. I've now got to get a long run into my legs (probably Wednesday) but won't attempt the 10 I did last week as that was agony. Probably and 8 on wed and a 9 on Saturday?

Again, I'm just making this up as I go along.

I'm no expert and have only run a few halves but the time on your feet advice is bang on, plus I didn't run any further than about 10 miles in my build ups. The adrenaline on the day accounts for the last 3 or 4 miles anyway.

I would do 6 Wednesday with a mile warm up and a mile cool down with 4 miles of intervals. Then a slow 9 or 10 Saturday 45 secs to 1:30 off target pace.
For the intervals run at just abone your target race pacefor quarter or half a mile and have 2 minutes jogging recovery.

Careful anyone running Hove Prom it's ankle turning pebble day. @Guiness Boy in the dark?

Running into the wind is definitely good training - it might be like that on race day, so good to get some practice in.

Eight miles tomorrow seems pretty sensible, then see how you're doing ahead of the Saturday run. Don't beat yourself up about it if you can't do it though - small increases are the way to go, and don't be afraid to slow the pace down if you need to. Good luck.

Is elevation with Garmin and Strava hit and miss? Just Ran to Rottingdean and back along the cliff top exactly the same as a couple of weeks back. First trip 1500' second trip about 800'. No chance now of medaling on Strava elevation this week. I will have to concentrate on Gold on the slowest average mile pace category. :) Bloody Gazelles.

Taking it easy this week so just 4.5 miles tonight. Really looking forward to the Worthing half now as the weather seem pretty decent.

Running along Hove Prom from the View to Hove lagoon was tough with pebbles piled up everywhere.

Found attempting to pick the pace up quite difficult tonight as I've got used to running 7 minute+ miles, noticed a big difference when running 10/15 seconds per mile quicker. First mile in particular felt tough but felt better towards the end of the run and felt like I had loads more in the tank. 4.5 miles in 30:28.

Anyone else doing Worthing Sunday?

Beautiful weather for a run this morning. Had to drop my car off for a service in Worthing, so thought I'd run back to Shoreham. Been having achilles niggles but thought I was over it as I've done a few decent 10k's since I got home a couple of weeks ago. Felt sharp pain in my left achilles about 1k in to my run this morning & couldn't go on.
Had to walk / limp all the way along the coast from Worthing to the far end of Shoreham Beach as I stupidly didn't take any cash for the bus just incase. If you saw a miffed looking chap in an Albion jacket hobbling from west to east on the front between Worthing / Lancing this morning, that was me.
Looks like yet another visit to a physio. Very fed up.

At The View the sea has eroded the beach from underneath the decking so that it is half suspended. Can't believe you could run that pace at night on pebbles on Tarmac.
At £35 for Worthing I will only do it, if someone offers me their number for £20. #Tightwad

Knee problem ! Right knee very sore after a 9 mile run (prep for Worthing Sunday) I use the cold spray, would a knee support help ? Not great reviews on running sites but getting a bit desperate as the Btn Marathon will be a big strain. Thanks.

I'll be focused on not breaking a leg skiing for the next week.i consider it as mental and physical conditioning and all part of the plan. Back in tie for Tunbridge wells half on the 21sr as did not make Brighton. Anyone else at TW?

Good luck to everyone at Worthing - got to be a quick one.
