No, no, no. I peaked at 13 at 800m and 1500m. Previous best run was 1972 taking Steve Ovett's U-13 or U-12 Brighton & Hove Schools 400m record in a slow 67.5 seconds. Won by nearly 100m. I can probably dig out that time.

From then on I nosedived into oblivion. At Hove Grammar sport was frowned on by pupils. At one sports day 2 boys got caned for deliberately not trying. One of them the best High Jumper, for repeatedly head butting the bar at a low height. These were the champions of the 1970's. Lade is remembered at reunions not athletes.:lol:

The purple patch was in Riyadh in 1995 when 36 years old. I was in the Hash House Harriers for 18 months and enjoyed the desert running. No records of times as all on paper on the notice board. So no times can officially count but:
5k 17:45
10k 19:52

So no proof, no time as @ Dazzer6666 has said.
Best recent effort is as a 52 year old 2:37:50 at Windsor Olympic Triathlon but that's for another thread.

All I do know is I have fallen behind relative to my own ability and need to get back on track.

That's some seriously impressive school-boy achievements. (My mate ran in that very same race with Ovett - but was nowhere near him.) My times only come from my mid 30s when I started running and moved back to the south.
From memory:

The following were all in my mid-30s:
4 mile - 24:30 ish (Worthing)
10 K - 39:40ish (Brighton)
Half marathon: 1:31 (Chichester)
20 miles - 2:28 (Worthing)
Marathon 4:19 (London - at age 51 but still not great)

More recently (yes, 51 isn't recent) at 60:

5K: 20:50 (Hove Prom)
10K: 43:26 (Worthing)

Will try Phoenix and Worthing 10Ks. Meanwhile will try to locate a parkrun which is entirely downhill, one-way and with a following gale-force wind in order to nudge up towards as near as I can to 80% AG...................

I think I started my running career too old to challenge any of those.

5k (Hove Park Nov 2014)- 20:31
10k (Brooks 2015) - 43:09
10 mile (Bright10 2015) - 1:11:23
HM - (Barns Green 2015) - 1:43:20
Marathon (Brighton 2015) - 3:49:28

Confident I can break the HM time on an easier course - rest may take some work but would like to thin a flatter park run would get me closer to 20 mins.

Have I missed a joke? Or have you run with them in Hong Kong or some far off place? We had squash I think but some good weekend drinking parties.

My friend's mum was in one for years that was a drinking club with a running problem. Don't their club rules specifically mention beer?

Yes. Even in Saudi. I had to jog with them on thursday for party invites and run with the Road Runners on a Friday for racing.

On NSC for over two decades...
I think I started my running career too old to challenge any of those.

The Barns Green course beat me last year and I trailed in a minute or so after you - and I'd clocked sub 1:40:00 times on both the other two halfs I did last year, so you can definitely go faster on a flatter course.

Interesting looking at the last three. I know you were pacing at Bright10 and can go much faster (i.e. your 1.17 in training) but I managed a 1hr 23 in that race and your half and full mara times are exactly what I'm aiming for in February and April. It gives me comfort that this is another example of a 1.45 half translating to a sub 4 full but also puts the effort I need to put in to training back in to sharp focus as your 5 and 10 k times are light years ahead of mine.

Not competing anymore stopped late forties,happy jogging a couple of times a week.My times are good but when you compete at regional and national level you realise they are not great. What I enjoyed about running was the greater the effort the greater the reward.

We can all relax now..........................! (But I wouldn't be surprised if your 'jogging' is the equivalent of my PBs!)

We have a winner I can't see many if any competing with those times. From 400 metres all the way up to marathon distance they are incredible.

Heartened by the fact you started mid 30's as I've only seriously run for 2 years and I was 34 at the time. To run 10 miles at 5:30 pace is so far beyond me I'm not sure I'll ever reach those heights.

What training did you do? And how rapid was your improvement?

Took on Hove's hilltastic twosome this evening. Parked in Goldstone car park(never shop there though honest!), through the park, Goldstone Crescent, up KGVI, down Woodland Drive and back up then back down KGVI. About 8.5km in 45 mins.

Makes you realise how KG starts steeper and flattens whereas Woodland gets steeper the further you go.

Normally I do more, say 8, shorter hill reps over a similar distance. Would I be right in thinking more reps may be a better aerobic work out whereas two long slogs is a better work out for the legs?

Amazing times- did you do a different sport when you were younger or at school? Otherwise you surely would have been close to international class if you had run when younger?
