They sound appealing and appalling in equal measure

I'm not very good at intervals, but I do think they make a massive difference to your overall fitness and speed. Where did you do the 800s – on the same spot each time? The ideal would probably be a track, or Hove Park (where it is marked out and where I know), but I guess the seafront is another good location, and I see people down there doing that sort of thing.

No running since Sunday for me. A few reasons, but don't actually mind the break.

Knowing Dazzer he probably did them up the steepest hill on the Downs.........

LOL - was 10ft of elevation in TOTAL ! used the football pitches next to Burgess Hill Town FC - just under two laps for each 800m. Garmin details here - plotted route is about 30 laps. Not the most interesting run ever. Slowest (first) was 3.16 and fastest was 3.05,all 10 (apart from one where I was 100m short due to misreading garmin) were within 11 seconds. Well chuffed with consistent pacing at just over 6 min miling. I'd tried a mini version of 6 last week on the treadmill, doing 10 is a very different experience

Right, off out for a little recovery run now. 30 mins, VERY slow :)

My eyesight is getting pretty rubbish so I thought I'd try contact lenses for the first time. I'm just about ok on the road but trail running I need to see where I'm going a bit more. Just spent a very frustrating and ultimately unsuccessful 30 minutes trying to put them in at Boots. They've booked me in for another go next week but I'm not hopeful. Perhaps prescription sports/sunglasses may be a better option. Can anyone recommend?

Keep going with the contact lenses, I struggled at first but within a week it will feel quite natural and far easier than glasses.

Agreed, you'll get used to them. That said, after 15 years of using them I had laser surgery. Absolutely life-changing, can't recommend it highly enough. Several years later still have better than 20/20 long distance vision.

Pretty upset I will be missing out on a 5 star Parkrun race between BigNuts and Pembury this Saturday. I've only ever seen Pembury's back.
Compensation will be 4 days cricket watching at Trent Bridge where I can now watch Brighton in the pub thanks to Sky.
Will be staying 3 miles from one of the Nottingham Parkruns so will pop over to Rushcliffe Country Park Saturday for a possibly hungover jog around their course wearing my Brighton away shirt.

I expect a second place finish against Pembury, he beat me comfortably over 10k by c.90 seconds. I'll be aiming for a pb of around 19:30 if conditions suit.

Ninja Elephant has been posting some impressive Park Run times at Preston Park I think that would be a competitive race also Curious Orange has been regularly sub 20 elsewhere.

I think Pembury needs to run against Downham Seagull that would be a battle royale.

Yes. We need these runners to come down to our turf and show us what they can do. Fast Bar Stewards.

Ha, and hopefully I'll go sub-20 again!

I finally had a Wednesday without being accompanied by poorly children, so I got to do my hill repeats at long last. Just 5 of them of about 30 seconds each up a slope that gradually gets steeper, incorporated into a nearly 5 mile easy run.

I've also been trying out new routes and have found one that takes me almost plum on 5k up to an isolated bus stop on the A31 Hoggs Back, climbing almost all the way for over 300 foot of ascent... The return trip is much quicker!

I dunno, Big nuts posted an impressive pace yesturday on his 9 miler, so i expect to be second to him on sat... ill be happy with a 19:50.. but depends on what is consumed friday night!

I on the other hand had a sluggish 11 miles home tonight.. the thunder and lighting out to sea moving in land was quite impressive though. I think the two cycle commutes, yesturday night and this morning were tough because of the wind and took it out of me a bit.

Oh well hopefully, if i can wake up in time for a 17 mile slow, slow run over the downs tomorrow morning..

Cheers, I've been told it can take a while so I'll give it another go.

I've been thinking about surgery also. Who did use?

I use lenses and on a wet day much better than steamed up glasses. Try mind over matter next week by believing you will get the slippery bu**ers in.

Good luck for the Grand Prix of Parkrun on Saturday everyone and let's hope we all have three points in the bag and the Aussies on the rack.

Blimey that's a frightening line up for Saturday, I'm surprised that Sky aren't televising it.

Had a stinking cold all week, may not even run on Saturday, if I do I may well get lapped by one of the speed hounds.

Enjoy the cricket knocky.

4 * 5 minute intervals within an 8k run tonight. However, that wasn't the interesting thing. The interesting thing was running past 2 lesbians fighting outside an ice cream parlour.

Bloody Worthing!
Did anyone (else) do the Highdown Hike on Wednesday evening? Great run: 4.2 miles, 500 competitors, testing course (on the Downs behind west of Worthing) and with an impressive lightning display just before the start.
I managed 32:30.
A good one for those of us who mainly do parkruns to experience a different challenge - eg queuing to get through narrow gates and the joys of trying to overtake on narrow chalk paths.

Good time....I didn't do it but a load of my clubmates did. The WSFRL league races are a great intro to racing, not at all elitist, usually great scenery and a nice atmosphere. No need to be a club member to enter (just cheaper if you are)
