I apologise for any overzealous rivalry but I’m suffering more than most. Put yourself in the position of a man once tolerated by NSC runners for inputting race times into a table and selecting the yearly Weakest Link Relay teams. Overnight his life has become meaningless.
He had great plans as well. The biggest being a plan to entice Bozza making a debut at the Weakest Link Relays. ☹️
Keep at it everyone and avoid the hawthorn bushes.

Yeah, but you're still in the job. One day, when all this is over, you'll be in the prime position to sort those Weakest Link teams, with Bozza onboard. Nothing beats good management material – and you'll have the the new numbers input faster than you can say "These are a good table"

5k in 27:05 on a glorious Swedish eve. Have now moved from the treadmill to the great outdoors, and loving it. I’m lucky enough to live next to a forest with a running trail nicely set out, 2.5k a lap with a nice mixture of ups and downs and flats, and just stunning woodland for a view. There’s even a little outside gym with some wooden weights and pull up bars. Ripping up my gym membership as I type.

Runners if fed up with being shouted at, spat at, forced into the road or prodded with a 2m stick, tomorrow morning is your time.

6:06 am is low tide in Hove and currently they are very low tides so plenty of splashy, wet, sand to run on.
Wind NE so flat sea.
Sky clear so good sunrise.
Supermoon will be setting to the west just before 7am.

Worth a gamble.

Literally no chance.

Slightly weary legs today meant I was going to go for a couple of easy-going miles as a “rest day” on day 68 of my Runstreak.

Then I looked at Strava, saw I was on 392.7 miles for the year, and that was all the persuasion I needed to plot a 7.3 mile route.

What a day to be out too!

Can someone help me with a running injury conundrum.

I’ve been suffering with lower calf pain in both legs when I reach 3km stage so much so that I have to stop at 5km walk a few mins and take off again.

I usually cover 50-60km per week and have done for the last two years to add some context.

Last week I decided to take a days rest on Thursday, ran with no issues on Friday and Saturday, rested Sunday and the Monday/Tuesday runs were both agony.

I’ve stretched, rested, changed trainers but it keeps returning.

Really bothering me so any advice you can offer would be really appreciated.

All I see from your post is that you'll be in peak condition for the rearranged* September Weakest Link competition

*It hasn't *actually* been cancelled and/or rearranged yet, but ever other bloody event seems to be September, so...

Have posted this before, but look into ‘adverse neural mobility’. I has exactly the problem you describe- made running impossible as calves would virtually lock up after a couple of miles on occasions. A chance discussion with a physio about a different injury led to her explaining this to me, and she suggested a couple of very simple exercises that literally cured the problem overnight (after 10 years + of torn calf muscles). It was like a miracle cure for me. Youtube video below as an example.

Essentially, the sciatic nerve sticks in its sheath, and muscles will contract to prevent damage to the nerve - this could be felt anywhere between your neck and your feet, but calves and hammies are common sites. The ‘flossing’ loosens the nerve - it’s that simple. The exercises take no more than a few minutes and there are no adverse effects so definitely worth a go. I don’t know your age but it’s a fairly common middle age thing apparently (I’m 53 and my running volume is similar to yours)

Weird issue as you can continue running after the onset of pain. Maybe you need a long warm up including a roller session. A knobbly roller if you haven’t got one could benefit. There might be a calf stretch you haven’t found? Good luck.
How about a run on sand like this morning?

Many thanks. Will definitely give this a go. No chance of seeing a physio at the moment anyway.

The best way to describe it is a tension build up in the lower back of the leg. Once I stop it’s almost like it’s deflating and loosening and can start again after a minute or so.

Supposedly much better then a foam roller. Has anyone else tried or heard much around these?

Presumably still wearing decent running shoes. I once went for a bare foot run on the wet sand whilst on holiday. Took months to recover!

Old trainers yes. Was just playing around today and came back a mile barefoot. The mini hard ridges in the sand would indeed bruise the feet whilst running but for a bounce along quite therapeutic.
The sea at 8 degrees was bloody cold and I don't know how those nutters can go in everyday

Yeah I bought an Air Legs massage gun a couple of months ago as an additional massage tool to help with recovery as I was building up the mileage in marathon training.

It's a pretty expensive piece of recovery kit but I've found it to be really useful on the glutes, hamstrings, ITB, quads and calves. I use it mostly after longer runs when the legs can feel particularly tight, in addition to foam rolling and general stretching. It takes a bit of time getting used to the sensation as it's pretty powerful.

If you've got the money burning a hole in the pocket I'd recommend one as an extra piece of recovery kit but I don't think it's as essential as a foam roller. You can find discounts here and there.

Having some issue with my right knee, a bit of pain on the front and left side. Nothing too drastic, and after the first 1k or so it seems to ease off. Do folks on here find that knee supports actually do much? I’ve got one from my football playing days and will try it tonight as planning a relaxed pace 10k

Ok, I might buy one. You’d be proud of me last night. 5 miles @ 9.09 pace. This weather is perfect running weather, would have been about 11 degrees last night and so calm. Also had a nice view of the moon. I could have run for so much longer, but it would then cease to become a recovery run.

Intending my 3rd effort at a mile this evening.

If it goes away after the first km it could be tendonitis. A couple of my friends have the same issue. Once the muscles start to warm up it goes away pretty quickly and they don't notice it again until they cool down after a run. Of course you could have something different but if it is tendonitis a knee brace wouldn't make much difference.

3rd mile attempt at the Velodrome tonight and a Pb in perfect conditions. 5.22:2

I really can’t see me taking chunks of this time but I do feel it may help with a 5k attempt soon. 8 laps and 340 metres of the Velodrome so I might try that at some stage this weekend.

I opened this with the excitement of picking up a sport result. Well done, particularly with the stopwatch .2 of a second. I’d round it off.
