After almost certainly being a bit fool hardy and running a bit too much (also with new shoes) I’ve got myself some nice big blisters on the underside of my right foot. Any good tips on healing, and more importantly, preventing these? And are they okay to run on?

There are various anti-blister socks, with the ones I'm aware of consisting of two thin layers.

I've not worn them for years now though as I don't seem to suffer with blisters any more, but I'd return to them if I did.

Pop (sterilised needle), drain, antiseptic cream/spray, leave uncovered overnight as will dry up much, much quicker. Cover with a thick plaster if you want to run. Shouldn’t take more than a few days to heal (as skin dies and dries cut it away)

Hardly ever get them these days. Snug fitting shoes and thin socks the answer for me (I use X-socks for all my running including ultras). Used to use Hilly twinskins, never had any issues with them either.

Hilly twinskins or Thorlos anti blister socks for me and running shoes half a size too big. Not even got a blister on a road marathon with that combination.

One way to ensure people stay 2 metres away from you.

First long run for 3 weeks to end my month with a rest day tomorrow. 155 miles which eclipses my previous best earlier this year in January 139 miles.

Original plan tonight was to run past the Amex and up the Falmer Road but access is completely fenced off once you reach the first programme stand, so headed back along the Lewes Road.

Who knows what April will bring? Could be a full lockdown but if not I may well beat this total again as no football on a Thursday now which should give me an extra 7/8 miles per week.

Well fitting shoes and seamless socks will probably help. But if you find you get blisters in specific places all the time try Vaseline in that area. I get this recurring corn which I got rid and now keep at bay with some grease.

I thought I should mark it with something good so thought I’d try for a 5km PB by trying to hold onto 6:50/mile pace.

I managed to better that and took my PB from 21:33 to 20:14. Maybe I could run a 19:xx after all!

Yes,yes you could...especially in a 'race' environment (not parkrun of course, that's absolutely not a race :whistle:). Seriously though, that's fantastic.............when all this blows over you're going to have to log a proper time........

Don’t tell him the benefits of a 2-3 day taper FFS.

What site do you use for Age Grading [MENTION=15605]knocky1[/MENTION]?

There seems to be a few out there and I want to see how close I am to 70%, which feels like a good target to aim for, even if it's an optimistic one.

Heading into April, here's hoping we'll be able to continue to get out and do what we all enjoy, spending a bit of time making the best of a bad situation and that there's a glimmer of light up ahead of this dark tunnel sooner rather than later. :smile:

That's ridiculous mileage!

My March has been 182 miles, taking me to 353 miles for the year. January was a write-off though, with just 30 miles, so I'm absolutely delighted at my progression over the past couple of months.

I don't know if 182 is the most I have run in a month, but I think it has to be my best ever month of running as it includes my three best ever 5km times (and one of those was part of a 10km run) and three out of my top four 10km runs. It also includes my second best ever half-marathon time, which was very much a slow and steady run, following your mantra to slow things down.

It's about far more than the numbers though, As you say it's all about being able to get out there - it's never been more important: "Don't run because you should, run because you can."

That's awesome Bozza! The steady consistency is bringing huge gains in improvement! All about safely chipping away and maintaining some solid consistency and the benefits appear.

A paltry 76 miles for March for me, but then with Jan and Feb not getting over 20, it's an improvement!

Notched up 100 miles for the year early this morning as I celebrated turning 42 trying to run like I was still 32. Attempted to squeeze 4.2 miles into 32 minutes and failed, just. Decent workout though, legs just a bit tired at the end, up a hill...
