Anyone got any tips or tricks on getting a dog to drink more water? Our Misty just doesn't seem to want to drink much at the moment, and that's a bit worrying in this current weather

When we're out she absolutely refuses to drink out of bowls the public put out, in fact she usually tries to pee in them but she's not showing much interest in her own water bowl at home.

We’ve got one of these, which is good because the rubber leaf bit just comes off and I can have a drink too. Our dog seems to only want water on his terms so I’m just regularly stopping to offer the bottle. Think we have an understanding now as he looks away if I grab the bottle and doesn’t want a drink, but looks interested when he does.

I put a lot of water in with their tripe and kibble..also an outside drinking bowl ends up with bits of stick / leaves in it and Griff likes to snorkel blowing bubbles through his nose! Amuses both of us!

I think that it's because both units circulate the water.

My dog hasn't been drinking enough. Like all the women in my house, if you tell them what to do, even "drink" she gives me that look that says "Do one"

With food, she always has a finite window to eat it which works. To that end, I sometimes take the water away. Hey presto 30 minutes later she will down water like a piss head on a stag do in a classic case of reverse psychology. It deffo won't work on all dogs - and the next 3 days aren't ideal to start trying this by any means - but it might work if your dog thinks that way.

The other one is get the hose out. Guaranteed to drink it.

Unless your dog is unwell, I wouldn’t worry personally.

I’ve one ESS that drinks from the river and any other water source she can find when she’s out. She’ll then come in and drink a full bowl, albeit half of it ends up on the floor. Her sister rarely drinks when out unless she becomes thirsty when working and then it’s a few quick slurps and she’s off again.

So long as they’ve got access to water, my view is they know how much water they need.

Went out for a long walk along Hove seafront this morning with a 0.1M low tide. Dog wise a 10 month old cockapoo pup (mine), a 10 year old hairy sheepdog cross (my friends' dog) and a 5 year old Whippet my friends walk for another owner on a Saturday (other owner is 80 year old female stroke survivor who smokes like a trooper and controls the Whippet purely by voice and food).

They'd all run round like loons, chased a ball and got covered in sand and soaked in sea water. We walked up to Rockwater to get a coffee and they have bowls out full of water at all times.

Sheepdog cross drunk what I would consider to be a normal amount of water, my pup went water mad, drinking and covering his face in it and the Whippet didn't touch it. Very deliberate from all of them and all were fine walking home.

Dog Walking Alert - AVOID Waterhall playing fields. This evening there must be well over 150 caravans; trucks, quad bikes, wagons plus kids and dogs around the entire perimeter. Rubbish is starting to accumulate. God knows what it comprises.

Understand it it similar in Preston Park unless it is the same rabble that have moved on.

Thanks for posting that. Our lovely travelling friends do seem to have a tendency towards stealing - sorry, of course I mean swapping - dogs. Guess they'll be on Hove Lawns soon and then Southwick?

We have two Boxers residing with us at present - Maisie (ours) and Matilda (our daughter’s - who is on holiday). They have been told in no uncertain terms not to venture outside whilst the temperature is around gas mark eleven. Of course they understand! The reward is a relaxing cool mat to lie on and the occasional yogurt ice cube. Satisfaction all round I’d say.
