The dull part of the south coast
We had a truly lovely Cavalier King Charles called Poppy, and she lived to 14 years old. I posted on here when we had to have her put to sleep and the responses and PM's were truly heartwarming. There are some absolutely lovely people on here. :)

A year ago we got this little bugger... A Cavapoo called 'Lola' - and as a 6ft 3in, 17 stone man - I act like a total melt around her. :lolol:

Really intelligent, so loving and loyal, and although she'll never replace Poppy she's won our hearts and is one of the family.

What a cute little thing Lola is. As for you losing Poppy my heart goes out to you. They don’t call a dog ‘man’s best friend’ for nothing. I am absolutely devoted to my Boxer Maisie (she in my avatar!) and that is more than reciprocated. Maisie will be ten in January and is now slowing up a bit in the activity stakes - definitely a lady of a certain age! In the back of my mind is the thought that the lovely attention seeking madam will no longer be with us, and I’m dreading it. In the meantime, like you, I will be a total melt in her company as well. How mad we all are!

Looks like a lot of Kennel Cough doing the rounds in the Hove and Portslade area. Frankie has a horrible hacking cough today which has led to three different phlegm clearing incidents

Called the vet who just told us to give him honey and soft food, keep an eye out for him not being himself or getting a big nasal discharge and not go near other dogs for a week.

I guess they are the experts but does anyone have any good additional tips? How long does it take to clear up?

I must say I was really looking forward to his first summer. Walks in the light and him learning to swim in the sea have been fantastic but, otherwise, it's been non-stop battles with grass seeds and hay fever, timing walks to not overheat him or hurt his paws and general shithousery with seagulls, squirrels and foxes. I'm almost looking forward to autumn!

Had to have the horrible discussion with our vet today about having Harry put down. As mentioned above, he has had various issues over the years which are getting worse. Sadly the last try with different medication hasn't worked and so far this week he has tried to nip me when I tried to leave the house, barked for hours when we try to put him to bed until someone gives up and goes to sit with him, guarded the cupboard again and also wouldn't let me into my own bedroom - very aggressive snarling etc which to be honest scared me.

Had a long chat with our vet who has said that with these worsening episodes the risk is that it is only a matter of when, rather than if he bites one of us or someone else. As we have great issues getting him to the vets at any time now, we also have to think about his own health as if he has an accident, it will be difficult to treat him and he could end up suffering which we don't want.

He's booked in for next Friday and I am dreading it (lump in the throat just typing this) but sadly it is something we have to do.

Newmarket.
Not mine but my ex missus' new pooch.
I don't know how she's going to look after him as she can't even look after herself.

Only just noticed this thread

Here's Flora; she's a rescue from Portugal, a podengo/border collie (and a few other things) cross. Unfortunately, she got attacked by a German shepherd when she was young and since then she's been a bit reactive with other dogs. Great with people though

I'm a member of the reactive dog club. Hard work. Arlo is getting better with time, but I can't relax with him off lead as his recall isn't good enough. In his case he's caught between massively excited to see other dogs to a sudden realisation they might hurt him. I generally muzzle him if other dogs are about.

This morning we had to say goodbye to Harry. We were hoping for a nice last evening with him but he had two more episodes which, in a strange way, helped reassure us that this was the right decision -the vet reassured us that we made the best decision as he would have continued to get worse and risk them not being able to help if he got injured of became unwell.

The house seems so empty without him this evening - aircraft are able to fly over the garden without being barked at. Due to his issues he was a needy, demanding, loveable pain the backside and we already miss him.

Very sorry for your loss, but does seem like the right decision from what you've said. All the best.

You have my sympathy and best wishes. I’m on my 4th labrador - the first two we lost died of old age really but the third was only 9 and went suddenly without us with him(operation) which was worse. You made the right decision, very painful for you and your family but better for him ultimately and that’s what matters. You’ll always have your great memories. Our second lab was my favourite and he’s still the pic on my phone screensave - dogs are wonderful animals and we’re lucky to have them.

I know exactly how you feel. If he could, he would have thanked you for everything over the years.

Sorry for your loss DCH.
Rosie has settled well with us, and seems a bit fitter and happier in just a month. Rocco has chilled out about it all as well.CDD55125-2075-4507-ABA1-97B4C7321656.jpeg
