Dan Ashworth is very open in this interview for the Athletic about all the loans this summer.
https://theathletic.com/2884020/202...ishes-and-logic-behind-sima-and-andone-moves/

Andone (needed to offload wages), Sima (tracking for 12 months) Caicedo (wanted to go to a dressing room where they spoke English) , why no incoming loans (Bloom isn't "keen") , loan to buy "Don't really want them...but...",

Subscription only - and I know you can't just cut and paste subscibed articles willy-nilly - but did they say why, if he wanted to go to a dressing room where they spoke English, did they send him to Belgium?
Also, the 'but ..' bit. Presumably that's Walton and Molumby - but what?

DA said that he could have gone to France but MC and BHA were keen for it to be a largely English-speaking dressing room. Apparently in many Belgian clubs(because you have French and Flemish), English is often the language used as most speak it to a degree. Moises was happy to go there because he’d be in a top division, not far from Brighton and English was often used(so Dan says anyway!)

Yes. The Beerschot dressing room is English speaking. He’d already turned down an offer from a French club (Says Dan A)

They didn’t want a loan to buy for Karbownik but it’s “give and take”

He is a genius, that DA bloke.

The downside with loaning him to a big league is that its not certain that he will play, plus that he will probably not improve his English a lot. In Spain he would probably keep speaking Spanish. In Germany they speak a lot of German and in France they speak French. In a smaller country like Belgium where all the squads have a lot of foreign players and a high number of players coming and leaving, I would imagine a lot of the coaching and talking is done in English.

They could have kept him at Brighton where he is needed. Can anyone seriously state Taylor Richards is a better prospect?

Still this loaning out players keeps people in jobs

They could, but chances are that he wouldnt play much competing with Bissouma, Gross, Lallana, Alzate, Macallister, Moder and Richards.

If Richards is a better prospect or not, I dont know. I've seen very little of both Caicedo & Richards.

Then why sign him?

Caicedo is a current international. What kind of message does that send to potential signings? Join the Albion and see Belgium!!

I am so bored of it all.Nobody expects £40 m signings

Because he might turn Premier League levels of good in the future.

It sends the message "if you are not currently good enough to play regularly in the best league in the world, we're give you the opportunity to get game time elsewhere so you can get better and eventually play in the best league".

We will have to agree to disagree. He is not going to improve in the belgiun league is he?As i say it keeps people in jobs

Perhaps we should have loaned him to Leeds

Then why sign him? [and send him out on loan at the age of 19]

Ha !
Why oh why are we signing young international players and not playing them ?
Why on why are we paying over the odds for new players and not spotting them young and getting them for a few milllion instead?
Why on why don't we have enough money to fund new signings from selling the young players we're bringing through the development squad ?
Why on why are we loaning in players and helping other clubs by developing their own players and earning them ££ ?

er, perhaps because of that.

He's 19 years old with plenty of scope to improve in that league. Ben White was loaned to Newport in the 4th division at the same age.

Yes very good point but Ben White did not cost £8 m,was not an international and did not travel half way round the world to sign for us

We are on course for a top ten finish, which i predicted at the start of the season, but I shall give this thread a miss from now on,i find it so depressing

Moder, McAllister, both cost us £5m+, were 20 or thereabouts, internationals and did not join the team straightaway being loaned back or loaned out to get more experience before joining us. Its a fairly normal model for a PL team.
And This is what Ashworth says about Caicedo - not sure what you're objecting to.

We felt we had one too many midfield players. Moises will be fine, he’s going to be a really good player, but with a development hat on, you’ve got to make sure players get the right number of minutes.

We’ve been speaking a fair bit to him about going on loan. He didn’t want to go to a country where he’d have to learn a new language. He had an option to go to France but didn’t want to go.

I know in Belgium part of it is French, part Flemish, but they tend to be English-speaking in the dressing room.

He wanted to be relatively close to Brighton and wanted to play in a first division. Quite a lot of players, particularly coming from abroad, don’t want to be seen playing in a second division because it harms, in their mind, their international place. So, it’s not simple.

We know Beerschot. They’ve been tracking Moises, shown an interest in him for a long period of time.

Someone like Moises, you get seven or eight clubs phoning every week. ‘Is he coming out on loan, can we have him?’ As you get later in the window, they can’t wait forever and take somebody else, so you lose some options.

But he was happy to go to Belgium in a good league against some good opponents and an English-speaking dressing room.

You are one of the better posters on NSC and i apologise for my comment earlier

I am ignoring this thread in future
