Guess the plot:

AUSTRALIA

Managerial style

Verbeek's teams usually employ two holding midfielders and a sole striker up front. His teams usually play a slow tempo and gradually build up play and heavily rely on crosses.
Verbeek has successfully guided Australia to its third appearance at the World Cup, but has been criticised by mainstream media for playing 'boring football'. Verbeek's response to these statements is that he is a results-oriented individual and if the team is achieving qualification for the World Cup, then he regards it as a success.

PS: I expect I will wait for Germany to score their first goal and then go down the pub.

Good to see Jurgen Klinsman on ESPN. The guy’s definitely class and his intelligent comments make his two US colleagues look like the plonkers they are.

The stat
76 – Coach Joachim Low has assembled Germany's youngest FIFA World Cup squad for 76 years, with his 23-man group having an average age of less than 26. You have to go back to 1934 to find a younger squad, and Germany went on to finish third on that occasion.

What they say
"Our aim is to win, we plan to take the initiative and put pressure on the Australian goal. But they are an extremely well-organised side and their defence is particularly solid. They'll fight for every ball and they're really hard to play against, let alone beat," Joachim Low, Germany coach.

"The Germans are better than us. If they offered us a draw now, we'd bite their hand off. They are probably the most consistent team in the world, they defend like a machine. It'll be really difficult to get a result," Lucas Neill, Australia captain.

FIFA.com - Germany-Australia - The matches of 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

In October 2001 Löw became coach of FC Tirol Innsbruck and led the team to the Austrian championship in 2002. The same year the club had to declare bankruptcy and was liquidated. Löw was once again unemployed. His next job was with Austria Wien (June 2003 – March 2004), before Löw surprisingly became assistant coach of Germany under Jürgen Klinsmann on 1 August 2004. Klinsmann and Löw had met at a coaching school years ago and the instant Klinsmann was appointed he called on Löw to serve with him. Klinsmann brought in a new attacking philosophy and used Löw, a far more talented tactician, to implement his ideas. The charismatic and highly influential Klinsmann and the tactically smart and also well-liked Löw formed a formidable team, reaching the semi-final of the Confederations Cup before losing to Brazil 3-2 in the best match of the tournament. Germany would defeat Mexico 4-3 after extra time in the third place match.

My comment: They must expect to reach the quarter-finals. I expect them to win 2-0.

I don't think the Australians are as good as the USA, but I reckon they will play the same way. I think Capello tried the same thing against USA putting pressure on, but the Yanks fought hard.

I'm really looking forward to this match. Surely we're due a decent game with lots of goals in it.

I hope so.
But i thought they're would be lots of goals in most of the other game and was wrong

Anyone got a decent bet I can chuck on? Still got some money in the William Hill account? 3-1 Germany?

This.

I'd look at odds for 3+ goals, 4+ goals.

Given the previous few matches, you may get good odds.

Still not brilliant odds to be honest. Who is a Ozzie centre back who may go up and score from a corner?

We're the kind of team that likes to get stuck in and tackle hard, this often upsets other sides who are soft but flashy.

Outside of that we're about as exciting as a pair of ya grandmothers undies.

A draw is the best we could hope for in this game unless Cahill or Kewell pull something out of their bag of tricks.
