That wasn't a sending off, and I honestly am not that impressed by Germany! I think they will come up against a much stronger team in the latter stages and struggle. They hate crosses into the box and look dodgy when teams run at them.

Im not sure that stronger team would be England......i hope we avoid them in the second round. But its only one game and Australia were pretty poor.

That slow motion replay post match confirms my thoughts. 100% red card.

Yeah, I'm now thinking the ref called it right. No malicious but it was a very clumsy and dangerous tackle from behind.

Really !? :lolol:

What game was you watching ?

Agree about the red card though - only ever a booking. Looks like I tempted fate earlier, re: the refereeing

Yes I know it's been mentioned Edna but, apart from Schweinsteiger (sp) was there a German national in that team?! Kevin Pietersen-England-Player-tastic!

The manager is a German national. As is his assistant Herr Flick.

Should have got a penalty when it was 2-0.

Not our day so wasn't to be.

The first two minutes were all Australia. The other 91 minutes were all Germany against the Coolibah trees.

I took great delight in seeing Cahill sent off. He was a complete wanker in a friendly with New Zealand leading up to the world cup, he is a very dirty player. I enjoyed his tears in the post match.

Typical Aussie, play dirty then cry like a baby ala Mark Geyer.

Germany surprised me with how good they looked, Australia were lucky their finishing wasn't as sharp as the rest of their game.

On the evidence of last night, I think being without Ballack may make the Germans stronger and quicker. Youth has come to the fore and they were a joy to watch.

What has happened to the horrible German teams of yore? This lot all seem a jolly nice bunch of fellows.

I see Das Bild is not being equivocal about Germany's chances: the big headline is "This our World Cup: we're going all the way". It must be important there's no room for the topless woman that they usually have on their website (although there is room for big-breasted women in football tops Hingucker-Fans auf der Tribüne: SEXY WM! - Sport - Bild.de).

Further down, they mock the English for blaming the Germans for the draw with the US. Closer reading reveals that the WC balls are made by Adidas. I suggest that Robert Green didn't really say "I blame the German ball".
